98.7 Kiss FM Streaming...For Now...

The (rarely) on and (mostly) off streaming of WRKS-FM "98.7 Kiss FM" is somewhat ON again, at least here in the New York area - sometimes it's been blocked ("not available in your area").

http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?CALLSIGN=WRKSFM

The player has station logo graphics, song/artist info and streams at 32 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo, AAC. It occasionally may revert to the lower quality stream or become distorted; just "refresh" the player's address bar URL and it should reconnect.

The corresponding direct link URL (http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WRKSFMAAC.pls) won't open in various media players, so we'll have to settle for the player for now.

The secondary lower quality stream is quite clipped/choppy. It will open in various players however (figures, eh?):

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WRKSFM.pls
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/asx/WRKSFM.asx

This streams at 32 kbps, 22 kHz, mono.

No big deal. Kiss FM sounds like any other Urban AC in (fill in the blank) Ohio. It just gives you a NYC classic from the 1980s from time to time.

Heavy 1970s (Bill Withers,Stylistics, etc) mixed with a few 80s and 90s Urban songs. The only thing different are the Fri/Sat night 80s/90s Rap Shows.

Strange that there is no working stereo URL so the player has one. I hope someone can find it. Audio quality is too soft and choppy.
I try the stream in my TuneIn radio app on my Android phone but this stream is not working on Android mobile #fail

Re: 98.7 Kiss FM Streaming...For Now...And Forever! (We Hope...)

Turns out I just beat the station to the punch - they officially announced that their streaming would begin at 12 noon on Monday 11/21/11. Sometimes you just have a premonition about these things...I was adding some streamtheworld streams to my Winamp player and just thought I'd try Kiss-FM's as I do once every so often, and it was working for a change. They have tested the stream in the past - last time was in March 2011, before that sometime in 2009/2010.

I had checked their website on late Sunday/early Monday 11/20-11/21 and they hadn't added a streaming link or page at that time; must have been added in on Monday morning at about 10-11AM.

As you usually do with these handy helpful streaming links... What a coup!

Finally getto listen to this station online!!! It's been a long time
When I was 12 years old, I was living in Amherst, Ma for a year (Originnally from Boston) While staying there I listened to "KISS 95.7" Because in Boston we had "KISS 108"
During my stay in Amherst, some guy introduced me to "DJ Red Alert" from "KISS 98.7" WOWWWWWW!!!!!! WHAT A TAPE!!!
I played that tape so much that it broke :(

Around 1992, I was traveling through New York City on my way to Trenton, New Jersey, as I got closer to New York City, around Bridgeport, CT, I had my walkman locked on 98.7, all the way past New York. I traveled by Train. I visited Trenton few more times around 1997, 1998, and 2003, same with those times, I listened to 98.7 while traveling through New York as well as my stay in Trenton. Especially when I visited Princeton. It was clear around that area.

Can't wait to hear them live online

***A side Note**** From time to time, DJ Red Alert is featured on "Comcast Music Choice" (Mixtape, and Throwback Jams)****

Around 1997-1999 I got the chance to intern for KISS 108 in Boston :) The station I grew up on listenning to and used to (skip class to listen to back in the day-Now that particular radio host is on a Classic Hits CBS Radio station here in Boston.) He look exactly like Donnie Simpson who used to be on BET (103.3 W O D S-look for J J Wright)

Wrks is generic and a shell of their former selves. BLS is a whole lot more listenable right now.

WOW, you ain't kidding! I can't believe what I was just heard. I'm sure that they have a market for the direction they're going, but how long will it last, because this is straight office and bedtime music. Is there a possibility that when Flex, Angie and "The Drama King" have finally become detached from today's hip hop generation, the transition will begin to Kiss for each of them?

Flex Angie Kay Slay and Mr Cee will all transition to Kiss. They are Emmis Life-ers. I think the time will be sooner than alot of us think too.

Kiss got a hot Turkey Day mix on now. R&B AND Hip-Hop. Could even pass for a Hot97 Mix. Sounds good to me.

The problem is you could drop Kiss in anywhere and no one would bat an eye. I remember like Lauro going to New York and my highlight was listening to 98.7 kiss fm to hear stuff that blew my mind. Now they seem to play the same things I can hear on my local urban ac.

Please can we stay on topic? Other thinks about Kiss in another topic please.

Still no good stereo direct URL for the stream available? Also TuneIn radio app can't make this stream available for Android users because Kiss don't using a good .mp3 or AAC stream.

@Trock, except when they have their Mix Shows. You might hear a slight difference. Maybe yes, you will hear the same songs on other Urban AC radio stations, but depending on the Radio Host/Mixer, you might hear a tiny slight difference?
KISS 95.7 was also great back then when I lived in Amherst (1987-1988) Both KISS 108 and KISS 95.7 were great back then. As a matter of fact, I heard (Jeff St John) and (Andrew Wolfe) Both were on both KISS 108 and KISS 95.7 back then. (Yes Jeff St John-Known as "St John" Wild 94.9 San Fransisco)
Although KISS 95.7 seemed to play more mixes and remixes throughout the day, (especially when Jeff St John was on-this was on both KISS 108 and KISS 95.7) backl then

KISS 98.7 audio streaming sounds ok to me.
Yes, also you might hear the same thing on these Urban AC stations if they all play the same show? Michael Baisden Show because that show is on LIVE weekdays 3pm-7pm Eastern. Same if others have Steve Harvey Morning Show, or Doug Banks Show.
Other than that, KISS 98.7 streaming audio sounds ok

I agree with you on the mix shows. Chuck Chillout is killing it right now. Playing LMFAO,we speak no americano and Alexandro stan saxobeat as I type this right now. I didn't see that coming!! Still the rest of the day is coma inducing on this station. Not to tick of Erwin. The stream sounds alright to me. It sounds like all the other Emmis streams.

Buy new ears...It sounds horrible and the audio is too low. There is something wrong with the encoding of the stream, lot's of tickles in the sound.
