98.7 Rumors

Family Radio Sports Network 🤣

That is where the "Hail Mary pass" has a new meaning!
Y'all jest, but in San Francisco when CBS sold KFRC (610) to Family Radio in April 2005 partially in exchange for the 106.9 FM frequency, the AM station was still obligated to broadcast Oakland A's baseball for the rest of that season. (Speaking of a team that needed Hail Marys.) This also delayed Family's ability to convert the station to noncommercial operation.

The A's finished 88-74 in 2005.

Once again, the format will be based on the new owner, whoever that is.

Speculation about format without knowing the owner is a waste of time. All I'm saying is Family has $50 million to spend.
They also could offload 92.7 which would add some more money, too. Suddenly they don't need the millstone that's AM 1560 in any way...

TheBigA, wait until RadioInsight says that it's gonna be Family Radio on 98.7 and throughout the U.S. market. Is that clear?
If I were an oddsmaker, Family Radio would have 50:1 odds at the moment. If they buy a station it's more likely to be another AM or a suburban New Jersey FM to complement 92.7 and 106.3 WYMK.

Also @AlNYC don't tell people what they can and cannot do. Is that clear? :)

A concert with 15,000 in attendance is not the same as a full FM where a cume over 1,000,000 is needed just to be in the ad revenue running.

The market is increasingly ethnic, and Long Island has its own, albeit limited coverage, country FM.

Out of the list of 100 possible formats, put country at about 87th, right before "Mandarin Chinese".
If Country was viable, then Connoisseur would buy it and simulcast the Wolf.

There's kind of a HUGE difference between format viability and spending tens of millions of dollars to enter a new market with a standalone brand.

Your analogy is basicaly saying, "My podcast has 7 listeners. I'm going to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars on a radio station in Kansas because 3 of my listeners live there."

OMG!!!!! What about smooth jazz and standards and beautiful music and Gregorian chants and doo wop and polka and and and ...
There are no stations doing this! It's a format hole! 98.7 NEEDS TO DO THIS or they're not serving the public interest!!

And don't forget "all commercials, all the time."
