98.7 Rumors

Why not just retransmit WWV, live-on-silicon from the US Naval Observatory? All time, all of the time. If nothing else, it would be incredibly cheap to operate and serve the public interest, since everyone needs to know the time every so often. High cume, though very low TSL.

"At the tone, it will be 17:40, Universal Coordinated Time. BEEEEEEP."

(Since this has devolved into silly season.)

What do you think this is, Communist Cuba with its Radio Reloj?

why not? Years ago, an FM station ran NOAA WX Radio after a sale in the early 90s, for a week

Only based off my gut feeling, which could be a good thing based off my prior predictions here, I just feel like it’s going to be 98.7 Hank FM. Classic country is retro-y enough for younger demographics to listen and listen for a long time like classic hits. I’m actually surprised more markets, especially in the south don’t have a classic country FM in their portfolio?

I am going to assume, if it's music, it will be one of the satellite/automated formats available from the likes of Local Radio Networks or Westwood One, with very minimal localization.

Never "assume" as the old saying goes.

There is also speculation (with a good chance of probability) that it will be a simulcast of an HD2 from another station in the market. Not very likely that Emmis would want to sign with a syndicator for an unpredictable term.

There's still HD2s? I thought everyone turned them off! ;)

I don't know why Emmis would want to tap into a different company's HD2 (MediaCo/Estrella), especially if those companies may be looking into buying 98.7's signal outright. Westwood One (or insert other company) syndication, low-cost operation is most likely for a "filler" station in the meantime but today is only Tuesday. Still several days for something to happen. Patience is key, folks!

Doesn't Emmis still hold a decent share of MediaCo or did they sell that off too?

For all we know, such a move might be an indication of sales negotiations taking place. I don't know any more than anyone else here.

Is a Wheel of Formats stunting a possibility, like what they did leading up to the launch of 94.7 NASH FM?

Is it possible that the station will decide to play one note from one song every day? Sure? Every possibilty as a one in infinite chance of happening. Over and over multiple threads people have given you answers as to what to probably expect on 98.7 come this weekend that you're ignoring. If you noticed, I even wrote a story that flat out said all the rules that governed radio in the past are quickly going out the window. So yes, anything is possible. But is it likely? Absolutely not.

This and the other related threads on this same topic have to have some of the lowest signal to noise ratios in the history of this forum site.

It’s actually staggering how much silliness is being legitimately suggested. And over and over again.
Saddened as I am by the loss of WCBS as an all-news station, what otherwise helps me is the realization that I simply do not care what happens to an FM station in New York City. Others' mileage may vary, of course.

If you are thinking of 93.7 WLVH Hartford CT, NOAA weather radio lasted a few months. The station was being sold, the old owner didn't want to pay to run the previous format, Spanish Tropical. In those days, you'd need a live person running the board. The Spanish Tropical format was never automated. There was no equipment to do that while the sale was pending. So the owner just simulcast NOAA Wx Radio. Apparently nobody at the National Weather Center objected.

Also in Connecticut, just a few years ago, NOAA ran on 1220 AM periodically during WQUN Hamden's transition from Quinnipiac University ownership to Clark Smidt (who changed its call to WATX).
