98.7 Springfield

Yet another religious LPFM or translator as Radio U in Columbus relays its alternative Christian format in SPringfield, first noted Sunday.
 
It's a translator, located on the WDHT-FM tower.

They also have a CP for another translator at 101.9 on the cell phone tower on Kaufmann Ave. in Fairborn.
 
I actually just found out about this translator the other day while casually browsing RECNet... check this out:

If you scroll towards the bottom and look in the left column, you can see a list of all of RadioU's translators. It really looks like they're starting to expand. In some regards, I guess you could say this is bad since it takes away channels for local broadcasters; however, I would love to have a RadioU station in my backyard simply because they offer something different. I think it is one thing for a K-Love to take a translator spot in a market that has one or two Christian ACs serving the market, but there aren't many markets that offer Christian rock, especially the polished version RadioU offers.

Too bad I can't get a translator for RadioU up in Wadsworth... stuck between Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and even Mansfield market stations doesn't leave much space for translators (though K-Love is on at 91.7 as a translator, W219BT).

Commercial band translators have to be fed off-air unless it's an on-channel booster...if you look at the list of translators they've proposed, they're all either in places where they can pick up the main 88.7 signal from Columbus or they think they can get a signal there from relaying another translator (i.e. they plan to feed 101.9 from the 98.7 Springfield signal).

I wonder if Spirit put a bid in on the WVXU network stations that WCVO bought. Those would have been a convenient way to expand their network since they were all full powered non-comms.

I always thought that Radio U did a good job both with their format and their technical quality. I wonder how close it is to the Sirius "Revolution" channel that I get with my sat radio.
