98.7 The Coast Going Top 40

I have been out of Cape May County for awhile, but it seems like 98.7 is going Top 40 now. I also heard that they are moving the 80's weekend to 106.7. I used to like Q107 when it was around, since 105.5 (Kiss Fm) has a weak signal in Rio Grande, Wildwood area.

I think they just need to change their radio promos, they sound very dated.

Listening to the webstream (which could use some work, there are times it sounds like a microphone held up to a boombox) they are taking an interesting approach to it. So far, I've heard:

Daughtry- Over you
TLC- No Scrubs
Mariah Carey- Dreamlover
Kings of Leon- Sex on Fire
Bon Jovi- Have a Nice Day
Destiny's Child- Say My Name

Technically, no currents in there.

The logo on the side of the player says "South Jersey's #1 Station For Hot Adult Hits." It's definitely not CHR... but more Hot AC than their previous AC incarnation. They also had a pretty decent spotload around 2:50.

Would make sense if they would just brand themselves a Gen X format based on your sample playlist.

Lady Gaga's "Telephone" now playing. Looks like we do have a Hot AC, so this is a tweak more than a format flip.

Worst slogan ever. "Hot Adult" makes me think of those blocked out cable channels, not hit music.

Took another listen, it seems to me this station has an identity crisis. One day it's Hot AC, then next it leans toward a Gen-X format.

I get down to Wildwood once or twice a year and I often find "The Coast" playing in diners or restaurants that have not made the switch to one of the commercial free satellite services. That said, some of the Coastal properties tend to subscribe to the "format of the month" club. Look at how they managed 94.3 when they owned it and 106.7 which is about to flip again. This is a very unstable operation. Their internet audio is woefully bad at times. I don't know the mechanism of their streaming. It may be little as a radio tuned to their station driving the encoding computer. Whatever it is they're doing, it needs work on both WCZT and WFNE. Responsible station owners place the same emphasis on a quality internet signal as they do on their over the air signal.
