98.9 Flips September 1st

What a waste of a good frequency. Why are they going to try a format that failed? MEC doesn't know how to even control a station. Bring Blazin' back and everything will be fine. Z90.3 is terrible! Sounds poorly programmed.

And my bet is that 98.9's dead air is stunting, and will continue to be dead air until the flip. Very professional! ::)

Today Just Found Out From Radioinsight That 98.9 Will Flip To Spanish Rock As 989 More-FM

You mean "flipping back" to Spanish Rock 989 More-FM, since that's \ what they were before venturing into English and Blazin' . Guess the verdict is on that one, hm?

The reason they went to hip hop was the failure of the Spanish rock format. In fact, "rock en español" has not worked as commercial format anywhere except Argentina, despite attempts ranging from Puerto Rico to Colombia and Mexico.

I really can not see why they would want to return to a format that did not work before and works nowhere else north of Buenos Aires. It will be entertaining to watch, though.

Oh David, I didn't mean to suggest that the Spanish rock format would be much of an improvement. As I recall, when More FM was Spanish Rock, the format just a mish-mash of Spanish Top 40, some American Classic Rock (they played an entire ZZ Top Album once) and some American Top 40. That and a signal that was in mono, and it sounded like a real train wreck. So if that is what they are intending, good luck to them.

Even if that's not the plan, I still agree with you, why return to a format that did not work, and has no chance in San Diego?
