98.9 THE BONE

I know I said in an earlier thread I was not going to post anymore, but this move today was totally "bone headed". Are these people retards? I mean this is a translator at 250 watts that granted has a decent signal but will not cover the people that listened to Project. The music is just total screaming and sounds like a terrible nightmare, and in all honesty it does not sound much different than 99X did, IMO????

You obviously was not a 99x fan. This sounds nothing like 99x. That would be like me saying 97.1 the river sounds like a oldies station. You would have heart failure !

It sounds exactly like Project. This was all planned. 99x, or whatever it may be called, IS NOT GOING AWAY! Mark my word, Tuesday, 2 stations might flip formats.

No. You have a CD player. Use it. It's not they'll play anything you haven't heard before.

If Radio One won't touch that, you can be certain nobody else will.

Having never really given the "active rock" genre a chance, I can't be a good judge yet. Thursday, P961 played Pantera right before Freebird...not sure if Pantera is considered part of the genre...they've always been thrash/hardcore metal to the fans...so does that mean that some of today's metal is part of the family? Just curious.

Have been listening since 5

Filter - Hey man, nice shot
Offspring - Days Go By
Metallica - One
??? - ???
Kid Rock - Cowboy

Odd mix, but I realize they're still feeling it out or something...I keep hoping it will get heavier, though.

"Mark my word ... might ..."

Now, THAT was funny. :D Stick by your convictions, son.

I hope at least one is a classic hit, as you all know.............. :-* :-* :-* :-*
Good times and one oldie?

Typical Active playlist. How is this odd?

To hear Filter and Offspring together in an alt station..yes....Filter, Offspring and Kid Rock on the "active rock" format..sure...Metallica may get added in there but it's pretty much going to be one of the hits from The Black album or the Load/Reload Era. It's odd because of the track they played. If it were Unforgiven or Enter Sandman..I'd not find it odd.

They'll surprise me when they actually go Heavy.
Is it safe to say that Hard Rock and Metal were radio-re-branded, for lack of better term, into the title of active rock?

If 99X does go to 100.5 or 100.5 goes alternative they should be something like KFMA (great station) out in Tucson.

97.9 and 98.9 are short spaced with stations less than 100 miles away, 97.9 is limited from WIBB in Macon, and WSPA in Spartanburg, SC. Any increase to that power level could be problems for fringe listeners to those stations. There is also WWGA in Tallapoosa that 98.9 has to stay clear of, which in areas like Douglas and Paulding county, the Bone will get crushed from. WWGA's 1.5Kw signal is enough to wipe out 98.9 Atlanta in west Cobb, I could not hear 99X in the mornings leaving Kennestone campus in Marietta to my home in Smyrna.

97.9 is about the best move-in translator short space, as WIBB is the only thing around. 94.5 is a great example of short spacing move-ins gone bad. There are two full service class A's less than 75 miles away, WIPK in Calhoun and WFDR-FM in Woodbury. WFDR even has a web page setup about interference from Streetz 94.5:

http://www.mountaincountry945.com/complaints-about-streetz-94-5

There is no "short-spacing" of translators per se. So, 98.9 and 97.9 aren't short-spaced to anyone. Yes, it's true that neither of those stations could be licensed at full-power where they are now, but the FCC determines whether translators can be allocated by looking at signal contours and interference. If a translator causes interference, regardless of whether or not the person complaining of interference is within the primary or secondary signal contour, the translator must resolve the interference, usually through finding another frequency or signing off.

Axel Lowe:

Now has changed his twitter discription to something not including 99x. Wherever Axel ends up; it will be in the 3-7pm timeslot. He will announce the station Tuesday. Make sure you are following: @AxelLowe

So how is Streetz 94.5 staying on the air?

98.9 is useless for westside coverage, the class A from Tallapoosa tears them up. On the northeast side they get smashed from WSPA. It's not a good translator for any format that on an IN-TOWN signal, I think Streetz would have done better here than 94.5, which does get out much better to the west. Regardless, as you and I said, none of these will ever be full power sticks in this market.

I am happy the music, much better presentation than Project(imaging, music) but I wonder if if would be possible to boost the power a few thousands watts. :)
Translators cannot go above 250W, period, full stop, end of story. The loophole that Cumulus found was that there is no direct height limitation with a translator like there is with a regular FM station, so long as the translator doesn't interfere with a regular FM station, so Cumulus found the tallest TV towers they could find to place the antennas for 97.9 and 98.9 (and 93.7).

Cumulus could, I suppose, try to get the FCC to approve a (probably) class A FM on those frequencies, but they will get nothing new in terms of coverage. They would get more power but would have to go to a MUCH lower antenna. Maybe better building penetration but no new real estate.
