A few days ago I posted that WNNX was playing on average about 9 songs an hour, of which three were active and six were harder classic, as reported on yes.com.
Now, it appears that the mix is about 4 classic songs, 3-4 active songs, and one or two alt songs per hour.
I am wondering if 100.5 is going to be a hard classic/active hybrid, maybe with reimaging, and 99X comes back to replace Bone.
Playlist starting at 4 PM today until 10 PM, with my comments on the classic cuts:
Metallica - Whiskey In The Jar
AC - Rock & Roll Ain't Noise ... (Classic AOR that fits in well with active.)
Foo Fighters - Rope
Rush - Closer To The Heart (Keeping the ATL AOR tradition that Rush must be on heavy rotation.)
Black Crowes - Hard To Handle (Seems out of place, but for some reason the BC's get a lot of AAA interest. Make it sound bluesy and authentic and the AAA crowd will luv u)
Billy Idol - Rebel Yell (Also out of place, but is one of BI's harder songs and could pass for alt in some circles without being offensive to those who don't like alt.)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (I guess this was too classic to leave off the playlist. Makes one long for Free Bird.)
Pearl Jam - Alive
Candlebox - Far Behind
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (Probably the oldest song here, from 1969. But a classic and a pretty hard one at that.)
Collective Soul - Heavy
Def Leppard - Rocket (Makes more sense than the poppy "Love Bites" below.)
Foreigner - Feels Like The First Time (As opposed to "Waiting For A Girl Like You", I suppose. They might as well play Styx and Boston if they're going to play Foreigner. Leave this one to the River, guys.)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - My Friends
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine (Very simpatico with active.)
Alice In Chains - I Stay Away
Aerosmith - Same Old Song And Dance (Still holds up well after all these years.)
Nickelback - Rockstar
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train (Probably in Rock100.5's K with the Braves.)
Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' On A Hole In A...
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (Probably would not be here if not for Wayne's World. Doesn't really fit the rest of the playlist. Another one to leave for The River.)
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home (Very hard and works very well.)
Nirvana - In Bloom
AC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (Compatible with active AND grunge.)
Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends
Metallica - The Memory Remains
Foo Fighters - Long Road To Ruin
Foreigner - Double Vision (A second Foreigner song??? One was one too many for this list.)
Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling
Judas Priest - YOU'VE GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN (Perfect.)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Aeroplane
Who - Baba O'Riley (Too classic to omit.)
Pearl Jam - Even Flow
ZZ Top - My Head's In Mississippi (One of ZZ Top's rougher, harder hits.)
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday (Throwing a bone to the Dave crowd.)
Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills And Far Away (Not a LedZep song I would choose for this playlist.)
Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Def Leppard - Love Bites (Hint: If B98.5 plays it, Rock100.5 should not.)
Bush - The Sound Of Winter
Dio - Holy Diver (Ronnie James has made quite the comeback. Maybe his music was ahead of his time.)
Collective Soul - Where The River Flows
Kiss - Detroit Rock City (Remember when AOR wouldn't be caught dead playing KISS? Not a bad choice, though.)
Shinedown - DIAMOND EYES (BOOM-LAY BOOM
Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls (Somehow, it works. But don't try "Somebody To Love" or "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".)
Tonic - If You Could Only See
AC - Shoot To Thrill (MOAR ACCA DACCA!)
Rush - Working Man (This nice long jam I understand better than "Closer", above.)
Black Crowes - Twice As Hard (Probably one of the things I dislike the most about most AAA stations.)
Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again (At least it's not another spin of "Crazy Train".)
