I'm no expert, although I like to pretend... ;D
98.9 does not sound like it was researched at all. There is nothing on this station that women can't, and haven't already found somewhere else. There is a reason that women listen to FM 100 and WRVR, and playing the same music as them won't do much to convince the audience to listen to you (just ask 94.1). Plus, the imaging voice is the worst I've ever heard. My wife was actually offended at the condescending tone. The 10,000 songs thing won't matter much if the music is no good, and I heard "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates TWICE in 3 hours... :-\
Will this work? Way to early to tell, but they do need soemthing that I'm not sure Citadel is going to give them...Marketing Money. hey need about $100,000 in TV NOW to generate any sort of interest, as the WRVR and FM 100 listeners had no reason to check out 98.9 in it's previous format. However, the marketing money wil probably go to KIX, WHEN Entercom attacks them (more on that below).
Speaking of Country, this may have been a major tactical error on Citadel's part. The best move would have been to go with some sort of Country on 98.9, to flank and compliment KIX (maybe even call it KIX 2). This way, Entercom has no hole to attack them. Now, 98.9 is an unfocused challenger to WRVR and FM 100, and KIX is all alone. Citadel has all but given Entercom the green light to flip 94 to a Country station...
A Jockless KIM with no heritage and unfocused music will not make much of a dent in 100 or 104. A straight ahead, foreground, fun Young Country, could do significant damage to KIX.
