98.9 WORD local talk

I notice the 3 main news anchors seam tied to the shows in ways I have never noticed on other news talk stations. Lee Rogers with Tara, Roger Davis with Frady and Stacie Bartro with Charlie. Ive heard Roger fill in for Lee on the Tara show. Are these news anchors also the producer for the talk shows because Lee is often heard during Tara's show while the other two local hosts do not have there news anchor on their shows.

The news anchors may appear on the shows to report the news, but should not add commentary. That is the role of the program host, as the program hosts are meant to be opinionated. But it should not be the role of the news anchor, who should try to be fair, balanced and unbiased. That's the way it should be, whether it be left or right leaning, should not matter. But of course that is not always the case.

No. The news anchors are busy enough. They wouldn't even have time to "produce" the shows. Listen closely. Typically there's some chatter about the news before or after the newscast. The news anchor needs to go back to the newsroom to put together their next segment. They will often spend a few minutes after, but that's about it.

Also, when you hear (for example) Roger filling in for Lee in the morning, they get another person to fill in for Roger. They always like to put their best/most established news anchors on the morning show. They wouldn't have an obvious fill-in with Tara.

i agree but during Tara's show Lee gives opinions or agrees with hers. His involvement seems a lot more than news anchors on the average talk shows anywhere else.

A news reporter should NEVER appear on a talk show unless its to report on a story.. not discuss news. I dont care if its NPR or WORD.

The way you can tell a good news reporter.. you dont know which way they lean politically.

When I managed an NPR station, alot of people assumed where I stood on issues simply because of where I worked.. and theyd barely get a passing grade on their guesses
