98 Point 1 CHFI Is A Jacky AC Now!!

They've Jacked its AC format, and now playing more recurrents & oldies AC, just after Jay & Billie's departure. It went from mainstream AC (98-1 CHFI) to an eclectic AC (98 Point 1 CHFI), as Mike & Erin move from 97.3 EZ Rock (a soft AC that plays plenty of currents). I like 97.3 EZ Rock as my fave AC in the world, as well as in Canada. And 98 Point 1 CHFI should change from "Today's Lite Music" to "'70s, '80s, '90s & Now."

Plus, on CHFI.com, they removed the CN Tower, and replaced new AC artists with gold-based AC artists on the background.
Edited by PassDutch on 07/17/05 04:32 PM.

Andy Kim's Rock me Gently was one of my favorite songs on that station, but now it's too over played.

As STRICTLY a wild guess, I'm predicting that CHFI will change to be even more so the format it has become, perhaps with a new name, as early as September, but most likely on the day Mike Cooper and Erin Davis start Mornings together there.

If they do decide to give the station a name (any name) instead of using the CHFI call letters, it will be one of the last stations in Toronto to abandon call letters in favor of a name.

(Call letters will still be used, the same way CKFM=Mix 999, etc)

Oh, could it be 98 Lite? Maybe 98 Point 1 Lite FM?
Edited by PassDutch on 07/19/05 12:50 AM.

Who's left besides CFRB and CHUM?

As PURE Speculation, I would better guess that they will more likely go with Clear 98one...but who really knows at this point?
______________

98.1 the ????????

using the 'jack' of all trades 'name'

...what about some thing..'interesting' such as..

office 98..
[email protected]

some how a play on the calls..chfi ( but
name it..hi-fi 98.1fm).. perhaps: chi-fi ( ?)

-it's not exactly original..but there is a jack-fm,
why not....Jill-FM @ 98.1

-hmm...i have a few more 'gems' however
I want to see where this post/thread takes us !

I wonder why CFRB decided not to keep calling themselves "THE SOURCE"
I also count CHUM as both call letters, and a name, unoffically, as CHUM does mean buddy or pal, like saying "your friend for AC on FM, and oldies on AM" or something like that...but that's just my opinion...if you tell me it's not like calling the station "BOB", I will respect that.

If I havn't left out anyone(in the Toronto market), it looks like the community stations, like CKLN, CIUT, and CHRY are the only other stations left not going with a name of some sort,(or that has tried a name of some sort), if CHFI does go with a name.
______________

calls/names of a station...

where does licensced station 100.7 ( one double oh seven)
fall into this discussion.

it is "CHIN-FM" however, for the most part...
it is a station often ignored, until the
"global-groove/now the club246.com" crew leases time
on chin-radio..

and, are they licensced to the actual city/qualify for
the toronto market..since that was the original forum
for this discussion....toronto based stations using
the calls, only along with the freq. of the station.

-i have posed this ??? inquiry before, but :: is chin 100.7FM
..actually, required to be multi-culture, and not broadcast
in english(nor french)..is that what they 'sell', or is
the CRTC issue a "unique/special/certain" licensce for
the programming found on chin-radio (minus, the leased
time by the sub-par dj's @ club246)..and that *GOD AWFUL*
show..about how to score..that individual annoys me..

So long as they're doing ANY form of AC, there's no sense in changing the name. There's waaay to much brand recognition to screw with it.

Jill FM exists in Los Angeles on 92.7.

Maybe a little different topic, but you know, I wonder why stations bother to apply for call letter changes if they're just going to be using a name. CISS becomes CJAQ ... why bother, because nobody outside the radio business knows or cares. To the average listener, they're 92.5 JACK-FM not CJAQ. Even on their website (925jackfm.com) I can't find a single place where the call letters CJAQ appear. Just seems like a waste of time & money.

CJAQ may mean that a Jaques that wants to be a french version of Jack has been screwed over, perhaps, (just a guess) but a better reason may be because Rogers broadcasting wanted their NEW Ottawa Kiss FM station to have the Ciss call letters.

You do know you're talking about the same station that fired the morning show, only to bring Erin Davis back a short time after,(Starting in September?) Right? They've messed with the morning show...why doubt what they'll do next?
______________

yea, i know that is why there is a pre-fix

The morning show could have worked had the younged-down the rest of the station. But they didn't.

Erin Davis has too much of a Mother/daughter following for me to agree.

Jay(Mad Dog) and Billie are good together, but they'd be better on a CHR station somewhere. Telling "Mad Dog" to just be Jay was not a helper...at least, not in Toronto. Perhaps they'll be ok in another market with the lite format, but I still say a CHR somewhere out there could sure use them.

Yeah, they'd blow up Mix 99-9 in favour of CHR, so my hot AC station (Mix 96 in Montreal) could syndicate the Canadian Top 20 as the Canadian Top 30 instead. Mix 96's top 30 countdown leans CHR, BTW. Both Mix 99-9 Toronto (CKFM) & Mix 96 Montreal (CJFM) are owned by Standard Radio.

I know. I did fail to make due note of the Mix 96 countdown though, thanks...is it being done by Freeway Frank?...Mauler and Rush?...Or perhaps someone local?...or who?
______________
