98 Rock Screws Up Again

So much for that new morning show producer they were looking for... Per All Access:

Lex & Terry Tap Tampa

CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rocker WXTB(98ROCK)/TAMPA has added the nationally syndicated LEX & TERRY MORNING SHOW. It will debut this MONDAY, JUNE 16th starting at 6a.

“I am very excited, as LEX & TERRY are an established show that has a proven track record of success,” stated BRAD HARDIN, Regional VP/Programming at CLEAR CHANNEL.

Another target for Bubba. And what happens to Buckethead, and the big B.S. show that was chosen over the somewhat entertaining combo of Big Rig, Pat Largo, and the rest of that gang?

How did Bubba do in the latest trend in Jax against these guys? And aren't they the same ones who were on 102.5 for over a year a while back? Bubba is going to be in rare form Monday morning. I can't wait.

Radio hasn't been this exciting in Tampa Bay in a long, long time.

Lex & Terry flopped in Tampa... and that was after Clear Channel fired Bubba. It will be amusing to watch them fail there again.

Lex and Terry were put on 102.5 WHPT when Bubba was fired by Clear Channel.

They died in the ratings - even though there was no competition in the rock market.

They blamed it on the signal.

Now Bubba is on the same "crappy signal" and is #1 12+, 18-34, 18-49, 25-54 and too many other demos to mention - in less than 90 days.

This will be comical to watch as L&T die yet again.

What will they blame it on this time - it seems they can never look in the mirror and blame themselves....

Hah! Better still. All I remember is that I listened for a full week and I went from not liking them to really not liking them. It's an advice show?

My advice - just play the F*****ng records, man.

WOW. This might be the dumbest move by Hardin yet. Seriously... "a proven track record"? He knows very well the track record as I'll too echo the statements above as completely accurate. The funniest part about the whole thing is they didn't even draw a 1 share on 102.5. The BS show, even though it gets hammered, would still do better... or even yet, play non-stop music without jocks. Clear Channel Tampa is self-destructing and the once doormat Cox is walking away smelling like roses. Watch out afternoons... I bet BS on 98 will go to a live simulcast with WJRR. Cowhead will destroy him there too. WOW again... now 98Rock and WJRR are gonna sink thanks to Hardin. Nice job chief.

Maybe Big Rig or Medlin can refresh my memory but wasnt Hardin music director of 98rock back when they went pure rock in 1990? There is no good new rock/metal in tampa compared to other markets...that is what kills 98Nerd!

Keep away from the CC studios...the impending implosion of a formerly-great radio station might suck you in and crush you down into a quantum singularity.

On the other hand, at least you won't have ears anymore.

I'm going to the miss the morning Buckethead Show. It was a good mix of entertaining banter and music. I guess people only want all music or all talk in the morning - nothing inbetween. That's sad.

I prefer all talk in the morning, but if they play a song...better be a good song. Usually if the show is good, we dont need to hear music cause we want to hear what they are doing/saying. If the show suxs and has bad ratings...just play music and have no show. Its hit or miss for me!

l and t never give up. they were put on in mornings here in orlando a few months back. they were on tks but jrr needed a morning show... after they made the mistake of firing pat and taco. so, maybe the b.s will be on in the afternoon? i have, i am starting to like the b.s. it would be nice if it was live as opposed a taped version at 3:00 here in orlando.
so looks like all the clear channel rock stations have l and t in the morning or that's how it seems... oh welll, hopefully one day l and t will learn.

Learn what? Learn to turn down the money from being syndicated? Learn that you're not a fan and choose stations on that basis?

Please enlighten me, what exactly do they need to learn?

In my opinion, how to win in the ratings in markets, say 1-75 where there is competition, outside of their longtime home base in Jacksonville.

Clear Channel under the direction of Marc Chase and Jacksonville GM Norm Feur (both no longer at Clear Channel) paid them far too much in a deal several years ago.

Dallas was funding a good part of the increase - but clearly Clear Channel needed more for their money - thus Tampa and Orlando get socked to help with their paycheck.

I listened this morning and I am now, for the first time, really afraid that 98 Rock will not survive until Christmas. They'll probably go "Classic Hits" or whatever else is the flavor of the day in San Antonio.

You're right but you know what you're talking about. I don't think that's where the original poster was going.
