98 Rock Suxs

Omar Doom of VlazeMetal.com sat down with San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal legends TESTAMENT prior to the band's April 13, 2008 concert.

http://www.vlazemetal.com/

TESTAMENT held a listening party for their new album, "The Formation of Damnation", this past Saturday night (April 12) at The Plush Lounge at The Key Club in Hollywood, California (prior to the band's sold-out show at The Key Club later that night). Check out photos from the party at DirtJunior.com. Among the attendees were Jim Durkin and Gene Hoglan from DARK ANGEL, Francine Boucher of ECHOES OF ETERNITY and Tim Yeung of DIVINE HERESY.

As previously reported, TESTAMENT will be the featured artist on MTV for an entire week later this spring as part of the channel's "52/52" campaign. Performances — including footage shot on April 2 on the Alcatraz Island (more commonly known simply as Alcatraz) and video material that was filmed at the April 6 concert at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City — along with interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage will air throughout the week.

MTV's "52/52" is a brand new way for the channel to give unprecedented exposure to unsigned artists, indie bands, and established acts on major labels in a completely new and innovative way. MTV handpicks one band/artist per week for the entire year and gives them the equivalent of roughly 11 hours of on-air commercial time per week on the channel.

Yeah...sold out concert...and MTV they will be a featured artist later this spring.. yeah thats why I give them Airplay for New Music and why its in my top list!

My personal favorite is when the Bone & XTB play STP's Creep at the same exact time. You can switch back and forth between presets and make a cool echo effect, good stuff.

I heard the same Tim McGraw song recently being played at the same time on WQYK and US 103-5. The sound quality was amazingly different. FUS's processing was crystal clear. QYK's sounded slightly muddy with little punch.

Just an observation.

David.. maybe you dont listen to Rock music? http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:wnfyxqwgldae~T5

Peaked at #1 in Australias top 100 Albums

Thanks for the info. My assertion about Airbourne comes from the fact I have never seen one of their albums or singles listed on the ARIA Charts (this country's version of Billboard)...or heard any of their music on any radio station here. Just as a sidebar: there is a real lack of "rock anything" over here. Most large cities, i.e. Brisbane or Sydney, don't have the luxury of choosing between a 97X, 98 Rock or "The Bone." There USED to be a rock station here, Triple M, then their ratings sank and they diversified (the "You don't know what we'll play next" sorta hodge-podge format which was broadened to include pop and classic hits) and the ratings improved considerably.

The Buckethead show has really grown on me. This morning they had me cracking up talking about text messages. I also like Jesse Kage in the afternoons and Dr. Drew in the evenings. I'm not a huge active rock music fan, though. I prefer the softer new rock they play and some of the classics.

If you dont like it.. dont read it. I dont go on other threads and say WHO CARES?

Im going to keep posting a weekly top 25 rock tunes, new music and link rock articles.

The format is aging, and at a 2.6, not gracefully. Thousands of mullets each day are giving way to bald spots. The Whitesnake demo is turning more and more to talk radio, and Clairol for men.

JD Clover

haha very funny! Mullets been in talk radio for years..but are starting to come back with the younger kids bringing back new metal in and old metal releasing new stuff.

Scott,

My only point was by posting and posting and posting and posting the same crap over and over, it gets old really fast.

If radio were like fantasy football, you'd be kicking everyone's ass.

We bow down to you, Mr. Fantasy Rock Radio Music Director. (Is it me or does that sound like Budweiser's next "Real Men of Genius" commercial?)

We get it already.

I dont think you do get it Joe.. if you dont want to read it.. dont and go to another thread..simple as that.

This thread is basically what a rock station today should play and why 98rock and alot of rock stations are low in the ratings. My top 25 isnt just what "I Would Play" Its a averaged out of the ratings from many charts here in the USA and Europe.... and what is selling. Is my top 25 100% accurate? No, but its fairly close.

Also Im posting new music when I see it, maybe a music director will notice a few of them and test it out in that market to see how it does....

Also Im posting info at times on Music News. Most on here work in Radio but some dont and dont feel like browsing the NET.

Yeah I guess Im passionate about what music should be played on Rock Radio, but I gurantee I would bring 98rocks ratings up to 4.5-5 share in 3-6 months! :)
