98 Rock Suxs

I don't know what your trying to post but the YouTube videos are not embeding on here, its just showing the HTML code.

Its a link, the window pops open for me....and you just click on the link, then a window opens, and you click on the arrow to play... That dont work?

Shinedown has released their first single "Devour"

Reposting this video by Negative... song is called "Won't Let Go" is taking off in Europe and Im sure will soon here in the U.S..( A couple stations just picked it up here in the States this week).

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SY_GRfXw1ME&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SY_GRfXw1ME&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

simple.. they dont play it and they should! ... but they play freaking "Pork and Beans" by Weezer ...the song suxs sooo badly....what a nerd band!

Thats your opinion but im sure there is plenty of listeners out there who actually DO like Weezer. 98Rock isnt on the air just for you, its on the air for everyone and if Weezer is what majority likes and whats going to bring in listeners then thats what WXTB is going to play.

And thats why 98Rock ratings sux....

Anyone ever watch Revenge of the Nerds movies? Remember the 1st 1 where the nerds did a band skit? Yeah it was funny....but that became 90s music( alternative).. .. Anyways yeah your right... some will like weezer..just like some like Culture Club,Pet Shop Boys,Micheal Jackson ..etc.. but its not hard rock music. Anyone that does was a geek in highschool and got beat up, were in the chess club, sat at the geek table...cause all that music is ..is for the NERDS... There is 97X if they want that..and btw their ratings arnt much higher than 98rocks which is now a 2.3 12+ Alternative Rock is almost gone. NIN released their new single, but I wouldnt play that also.. its not in the trend of hard rock music.(although I do like some NIN and I would of played them 10 years ago) 1994-2001

Not everyone would agree with me, but alot have sent me privete messages saying they do wish radio was playing the songs I listed up... cause in the end....the topic is 98ROCK sucks...and it shows in the music and no good shows (morning drive incl).

OK Time for me to be a Music Director and bring them ratings up Some station Call me!!!

These weekly Countdowns are from many different charts and what I would play
on heavy rotation..at least 8 of these per hour every 3 hours so people would hear
New Music first... out of 12 songs per hour.

There is a better chance of Tampa getting a dance station (paging Tony Santiago... Tony Santiago, to the Tampa board...) than for WXTB to even consider touching any of the songs you laid out. If a large portion of a mass-appeal "cookie cutter" rock station consists of "loud rock" then you can kiss your billing bye-bye.

You obviously dont listen to rock music or just listen to cheesey 90s rock. 98rock has a 2.3 12+ ratings... near bottom across the board...playing 90% alternative... look at 97X 2.8 ratings....horrible... look at most alternative format stations across the U.S. horrible ratings continue unless they have a great morning drive.

Look at WJRR in Orlando... they play a harder format with alot of the bands listed above... they have a 4.7 rating.. yeah 4.7 and they are saying alot has to do with Hard on Sat Nights (80s metal format) and also them playing alot of New Hard Rock compared to all alternative... alot of requests they get for alot of the bands listed in the top25 list above..

Also look at other stations like KHTQ (Spokane)http://www.rock945.com/ they play even harder stuff and almost no alternative except the big names and their share has been around 5.6 12+ for a year...they throw New Hard Rock at ya about 6-8 times per hour ... same with 93XRock in Minnesota http://www.93x.com/nowplaying.asp I would guarantee a 4.5 12+ at least if 98Rock gets a harder look to itself and also throws more New Rock/Metal per hour 6-8 tunes to get people listening.

98Rock in recent times has never been about music, but about personality. Take away the big morning show, the rest collapsed. IMHO the all hard rock/metal formula postulated here simply aims at too small a slice of the (shrinking) radio pie. 98Rock would be better off going back in a mainstream rock direction, with select new tracks, to appeal to the widest audience possible.

97X may have only a 2.8, but they simply exist to fill a niche not covered by Cox's other rock operations, to pull a few listeners away from Clear Channel, and make the best possible use of a weak signal. I doubt there are any expectations at Cox for 97X to pull huge numbers, or the format would have been moved to a stronger signal long ago. They could stand to widen the playlist a bit, and I'd jettison decidedly non- Alt acts like Nickelback and Metallica, but I'm sure the status quo (and OK numbers) will continue over at WSUN.

Frankly, I think both the Alternative and the New Rock/Metal listeners have been lost to the iPod and satellite radio (which can cater to any possible niche, even cheesy repetitive hair metal). Without compelling personalites or a truly unique presentation, what would make someone with tens of thousands of songs on demand or 80 plus channels press the FM button?

Investment in personality is what 98Rock needs, no niche format or amount of tweaking can save them from the brink at this point.

Motley Crue? Whitesnake? Dokken???? Is it 1985 again? Talk about cheese....

Hey now, what's wrong with Vince Neil, David Coverdale and Dandy Don Dokken?

Strangely enough, 98 Rock in the pre-BTLS days had a following because they were a much harder mix of rock than almost any other station could get away with playing. But I think the biggest hurdle now is that rock radio is just too narrowly defined. If you look at the variety of sounds that the classic rock generation grew up on, we heard everything from Blues-based stuff like Zeppelin to the southern rockers, the Foreigners and Van Halens of the world, Genesis, ELO... then research said 18-34 guys only wanted guitars in 4/4 time.

And these rock listeners also haven't signed up for satellite radio in the numbers that were expected, so what's the deal.

Part of it is that I don't think enough radio people realize how many young caucasian males listen to hip-hop. Let's face it, if they go to a club, they aren't playing Korn in there.

It probably can't happen in today's environment, but I'd love to see what a format could do that would mix rock, alternative and aggressive hip-hop.. yes, that happens to some extent on CHR, but this would be totally male-leaning and have no fluffy pop songs. Just a thought...

That could happen....but I think it would of happend many years back.

Still best ratings for Rock are all the harder rock stations in America that are not owned by CC or Cox... New Metal-Rock is whats "IN" and CC and Cox need to set up formats so that the music directors at stations in their markets play as much NEW ROCK per hour as possible and mix a few songs here and there of the 80s and yesterday.

Can anyone answer who and why the changed the 98 rock logo? The new one looks totally lame and cheesy. What was wrong with the classic neon orange on black in bold block font?

When Whitesnakes album on amazon.com had the 3rd highest preorder sales and 1st on CD.com and Dokken had #3 on CD.com and 11th on amazon.com it shows people want to hear that music. Thing is... if it Rocks and people want to hear it...it dont matter what style it is. Anyways, You can listen to Green day, smashing punkins and weezer your whole NERD life!

I'm officially old. I have to admit I've never heard even one of those tracks. (Even though I haven't been in that demo for a long time, I at least knew the top few songs most of the time).

I can at least say I know 17 of the 25 artists.
