98 Rock Suxs

98Rock needs to change their tag to 98Nerd They really need to stop fighting with 97X and make this station rock out to a harder side again like KHTQ and other rock/metal stations that are doing 5+ shares while 98Nerd is doing 2.3 cause they play the same 90s crap mixed with alternative music. Even JRR has a better share cause they play harder rock and have alot tuning into Hard On Sat Nights on saturday eves.
This is why I post the top 25 song lists... to show what 98Nerd should be playing and what I would play cause that is part of billboards...R&R.....KHTQ..WONE...and a few other countdowns all averaged out. Play more new rock 8 tunes per hour and throw in some tunes here and there that people havent heard from in awhile and are like WOW I remember that song/band... People tune into pure rock stations to hear NEW Music 1st and also would love to hear a tune they havent heard that often anymore.. not same songs played over and over again in every city....

JDC - You have to be kidding me? Alice Cooper nights as the answer? Have you actually heard the show? It has to be the absolute worst show Ive ever heard in my life. It's on down here in Fort Myers and it's un-listenable.
Maybe XTB needs to re-invest in great talent that connects with the listener and not a show that is off the bird.

Alice Cooper nights wont work if the ratings nationwide is bad.... Medlin is right when it comes down to it. Still Hard on Sat Nights on WJRR is getting the most emails/callins..etc than any show they done in years they say. They have great personalitys doing the show and they mix in a perfect selection of Metal with the hairbands, also they give"where are they now" and also make the show fun to listen. Perfect Hair in the Tampa market did well for the small time slot but they didnt do it the right way and did it the wrong time during the late 90s where grunge was still big.

Its sooo nice that this station continues to be near last in the ratings. Playing nerd bands like Toadies, and alternative music from the 90s is what breaks this station. Also no good morning drive. Actually no good nothing. No good shows... no metal ...oops sorry you don’t like hard rock music...you grew up in the 90s grunge. Sorry buddy but that music worked for the mid 90s time frame...it ended back then and music has turned to a more of a metal sound. Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Motley Crue, Egypt Central,Airbourne,Blacktide,Avenge Sevenfold,Bullet For My Valentine,Royal Bliss,Tantric,Shinedown,Whitesnake,Extreme,Seether,Candlebox,AlterBridge,Red, and more new rock. Sure you play some of this...but this station is like 3-6 months behind new releases. You should be playing Puddle of Muds new song to death cause we are tired of hearing Psycho. Also new 5 finger..also new Motley Crue...and New Disturbed...and New Extreme is out.... WTF is going on here? ... OK also this station needs some shows... after we changed the music programming to more of a Harder and more New Rock....we need some shows.
What about 2 hrs of hairbands? on Saturday night before the PIT!
What about a top 10 countdown daily?
What about a weekly top 25? on sundays before loveline..(actually no one really listens to that crap anymore)
What about 4gasams? after the daily countdown Mon-Fri

You want to see 4+ ratings or even 5+... you do what I said above...and I gurantee you them ratings by the fall ratings.. You rock people with more New Rock per hour...and make the station alittle harder..add some good shows (like said above) and you will get the ratings. And I'm sure you're right. In it's prime 98Rock was, in fact, probably one of the hardest stations in the country.
But the demo faces other challenges, like the fact that Arbitron can't find this age group because they only have cellphones, and they find all of their diary participants through land-line telemarketing.
And while I did poke some fun at the topic (we all got those calls and letters on a daily basis forever), you do have a lot of passion about it. So go get a gig somewhere and put it to good use.

Not really. The problem is that, as soon as the numbers are down, they do a music test, and if stuff tests as unfamiliar the finger gets pointed there. So it's a never-ending cycle of safe, familiar music and it's the same everywhere.
It's really easy to fall into the trap as a listener of thinking everyone likes (or should like) what you like. They have obviously tested some of this stuff and it tested poorly, either unfamiliar or flat out people didn't like it.

true they do the familiar music.. and the so called safe familiar...but thing is, its not safe and familiar is what kills. The ratings show it. Playing safe familiar music is what kills radio stations for rock. Everywhere the ratings for this "safe format" is under 3 unless they have a great morning drive. Still look at the top 5 Rock stations (ratings wise) they all are of a harder format playing alot of New Harder Rock....and they all aren't owned by CC. CCs safe format is wrong!
