WSGH-FM was the first station I worked for, as BIG APE recalls, in the basement of WAAA on Indiana Avenue. In 1974, it was a small, cramped space with - as I recall - a Gates Stereo 80 board (broadcasting in mono), two ITC three-deck cart machines, and big honking JBL speakers mounted on the wall. Some terrific folks worked on that station: Kim Jones, Greg Wells, Wilson Thomas, Randy Kabrich, Alan Cameron, Kitty Kinnin, Jack Shaw, Steve Marshall, Nick Archer, Jerry Smith....

The clearance on that staircase was LOW! You HAD to duck on the way up and down.

That's because Gig owned it! ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Maybe he'll sell it and let someone else give it a try. ;D

Truth is .... an FM Religious station would work, it needs to be the right kind of religious station ...... mass appeal .... not Southern Gospel ...

Wilson Thomas, What a guy. I worked with the "python" at WSFL in the late 70's. One of the nicest people I have ever worked with. I heard he passed away some time ago. Does anyone know what happened to him? Last time I saw him, I helped him move from Morehead City to Greensboro. I know this is probably the wrong area to post this, but the mention of his name brought back lots of good memories.

Wilson Thomas aka Tommy Sykes passed away in Greensboro on 11/10/99. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer about 6 months earlier. The last station he was associated with was WKEW 1400 AM in Greensboro.

Thank you. I had been wondering for a long time what happened. He was one of the Good Guys. ED
