OK Then, when did WIST leave Charlotte?

BIG APE:

WIST calls went to 550am Stateville 1996

WIST calls then moved to Thomasville 1998 until 2005

GHB Broadcasting loves old heritage station calls and moves them around their properties

Do you think a simulcast would work with 790, 980 and 98.3? I know 790 and 98.3 are both licensed to Thomasville, but the FM could help at night.
 No one touch my country legends!!!

A little more detail: WIST-AM was on 1480 in Charlotte. Then they added an FM at 106.1. When they hired someone from Mix 104.7, they changed both stations to WNMX "Mix". The WIST-FM letters went to Thomasville,
and the WIST-AM letters went to Statesville, then to what is now WBLO when that station was airing the same programming as WIST-FM. I will say the 790 signal was so good I could listen in Concord and I rarely changed my car radio from that frequency, at least during the day, for the year that they did that. I was mad when they went all-sports because the FM signal was so poor, and I had trouble with it in Winston-Salem. Now I have a car where the FM has a much wider range, and it's AM reception that's terrible.

WIST the original WIST was 1240. 1480 was WWOK - then Mission aka Cheap Channel switched calls with WAME in Miami. WAME stayed as calls forever until GHB moved WAME call and put WIST on 1480

Wait a minute here!! Something ain't right..Ya got me real confused now.. Whammy WAME was in Charlotte also?

has any of the so called genius programmers thougt of a classic r7bformat with 60,s and early 70,s and some late 50,sr&b and beach call it carolina98:)

Would cost too much money! Music license fees alone would be a big setback. They can to the ESPN thing with only a limited music license and little other operating costs.

I like the idea of a Carolina format - but it would take a network of stations across the state to make it work.

I know one thing. Country Legends 98.3 is not promoting this. They come on the air from time time promoting The Ball but from what I can tell they aren't even trying with the new station.

Why not bring back standards?

It makes no sense to me to operate The Ball and the new station separately. It would make way more sense to simulcast them with a great local show and pick and choose the ESPN shows. I suspect ESPN is more serious about their "all or almost all or nothing" policy.

I finally heard a reference to ESPN 980 on Country Legends 98.3. It was in a commercial related to some event and the three stations were all sponsors.
