98Q, B107.3 and WLAD moving

98 Mill Plain road.. isn't that Plaza West building? Tom O. will the STL be microwave to the TX or remain telco?

OK...from what I read, that 107.3 FM station is actually only a translator which rebroadcasts WREF-AM 850 of Ridgefield. Not knowing Danbury itself that well...does that signal on 107.3 FM get out much? Would it be similar to the 97.1 translator in Bolton in terms of coverage? (Formerly relayed WILI-FM of Willimantic and now relays WMRQ-FM 104.1 HD2.)

The 107.3 translator covers Danbury, Bethel and most of Brookfield pretty well. Spotty the rest of the market and totally disappears at the Connecticut/NY border.

A feasibility determination for an STL has not been completed. The present facility no longer meets our needs. As is the case in many situations, technology and needs have progressed and the infrastructure has remained the same. We are building a facility that meets our present needs with flexibility to accommodate our future needs as well.

There are many facets to this project, all which must be carefully coordinated to ensure an on time, within budget completion. WREF changed call sign to WAXB. The 107.3 translator is fed the same programming as 850 in Ridgefield.

107.3 almost goes as far as WXCI in some areas. for example to the south on route 7 almost up to the Super 7 connector. for coverage to the west it does not make it over the hill in Ridgefield into NY. I used to drive around to see how far it goes when Dennis/Berkshire were relaying 91.7 WXCI on it.

???

WAXB 850. I heard it 'breaking up' today. grrrr my portable radio has a problem ... tried another radio and it was 'breaking up' on the other...

Maybe just bad luck here or something that knocks the signal out for a very brief brief time that I do not detect on the radio receiver. (noise burst or ??)

WAXB 850 ? I started listening to it because what else is on AM with music ? I am too young to listen to oldies forever but --------------

Don't get the translator here on FM.

I think I heard translators might be dead vs. LPFM so not sure what that means as I assume WAXB would like a better FM signal.

Location: Fairfield

Don't give up on the 850am in Fairfield. We were having drop outs at my office Friday in Danbury on the FM. I was assuming it was a new source of interference since we are in a very noisy computer envrionment. So far none today so maybe it was the feed.

ok...it was not my imagination..

Sort of made somebody think their radio was going bad.

Here in NE Fairfield 850 I often tune radios to check them out (my collections) and if a radio can not get WAXB 850 it is pretty bad. Some can't very good. The status of radios on the market 2012.

Otherwise appreciate still plugging music on AM. oldies oldies

I think you are still AM Stereo. I think there are still some AM Stereo receivers out there even though of old age. Many say AM STEREO made sense. Now look at HD or whatever they call it. I think most receivers have been discontinued except maybe in some car radios.

I was able to pick up a station broadcasting the True Oldies Channel on 107.3 here in Glastonbury last weekend...on top of a hill, and with fringe reception. Could this be the station from Ridgefield? That's an awful long way for a low powered signal to travel but you never know. I looked it up and couldn't find any other stations in the area with Scott Shannon on that frequency...

I routinely get B107.3 from Danbury all the way to the big South St. hill in Middlebury (I 84 between exit 16 and 17). I would imagine it is possible if you are on a high enough hill. The antenna is on the WLAD, WDAQ tower which is 988' above sea level. Good piece of DX.

when we were testing WXCI on 107.3, 107.3 actually came in stronger than 91.7FM in our WXCI radio studio because of the transmitter location.

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to mention I frequently get the 107.3 translator in North Haven just east of Interstate 91 exit 10. That's almost 40 air miles, considerably farther than I can pick up any 3000 watt (former "Class A") FM station here. I'm listening on a regular car radio in my driveway or even in the garage.

I guess the terrain is just perfect. It's not a weather-related anomaly, because reception is not confined to E-skip or tropo days when other distant FMs come in.
