98Rock

Playing more music has helped 98Rock in the ratings and also playing alittle more New Rock.. especially more Active Rock (as I bitched about for 18months).Also now Clear Channel markets
have picked up on playing the Top 25 Active Rock songs every Sunday night @ 9pm
hosted by Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue.. (yeah almost simular to my top 25 music
countdowns that I use to post a year ago) that some laughed about. Well they are
doing that now as I posted back then. Still though 98Rock can get better by having
a couple Rock shows.. like WJRR has Hard on Sat nights.. they say its their best show
outside of the rubber-room (New Active rock songs @ 11pm each night) and maybe a
all request hour would be nice for 98Rock todo. Probably take them a year also to get
them going.
Anyways, 98Rock has gotten better over the past 6 months..but still, STOP the Weezer
crap and smashing punkins 1979.....shheeeshh how many times do we have to hear
garbage. Mix in some more 80s-90s Metal/Hair Metal that goes along with Active Rock!

How many times do we have to hear Garbage? I hope a lot. I like that band. And if the recent Smashing Pumpkins show that was totally jammed and sold out is any indication, people still like that band. If you want 80's/90's hair and metal, turn to 102.5. You're just not gonna find a station that's mixing currents from Godsmack and Disturbed with Dokken and Crue in a market this size in 2010.... at least not on a regular hourly basis.

You could jump on into the Hot Tub Time Machine and go to the Rockit Club to catch a set of Roxx Gang for that.

Love both, but mixing Alternative Rock and Faster ***** Cat or some Smooth up in Yah! Isn't going to work.

Alternative rock is dead and has been dead for 10 years +

102.5 sucks.. only thing good about that is Cowhead show

Never mix Alternative and Hairbands. It's mixing Active Rock and
a few Metal bands-Hairbands from the 80s.. same music style
really just less glam.

Actually 98rock does mix Crue with todays Active Rock...not dokken though, but I would rather
hear dokken 1 time every once in a blue moon then smashing pumpkins 1 time every 2hrs.

When you play (98Rock now)

Shinedown,Disturbed, Metallica,Ozzy,Avenge Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine,Slipknot,Puddle of Mud,Sevendust,Godsmack, 5 Finger death punch, Nickelback,Stone Sour, Mudvayne, from todays active rock (and there are more that 98rock is finally starting to play that I been bitching about) and mix it with Motley Crue, Anthrax, Iron Maiden,Pantera, Van Halen, G-N-R, It works. But throwing in Weezer, Smashing Punkins , Hole, etc etc.. doesnt work with the people who like the above music that 98rock is pushing finally now... they need to sub those Alternative bands and mix in the "Most Popular" other hairbands-Metal like Queensryche, Steelheart,Slaughter,Skid Row,Poison,..and crap even Firehouse.... girls love them and afterall..98Rock plays Hinder.

Im not saying throw away everything from the alternative era..but just leave us the seattle bands like Nirvana,Soundgarden,Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and let 97.1 play the alternative crap..and almost all alternative rock stations country wide get beat out by Active Rock stations in the ratings unless they have a great morning drive. This post isnt directed at you Bill.. just saying in general.. :)

98 Rock's suffers from the same disease as ALL other corporately own music stations...

They have a incredibly small playlist... the problem isn't what they play, it's what they DON'T play. Nothing has changed Scott, and nothing is going to change. It's not the fault of anyone who works for 98 Rock, the programming decisions aren't made there... get over it... nothing's going to change.

The big 3 have mastered the art of deception. They've managed to dumb their audience down to the point where people still tune in even though there's no humanly logical reason why anyone would listen to a commercial FM... It's crap, no one likes these songs anymore, and yet people still listen. Commercial broadcasting has become nothing more than the art of selling a worthless product to a audience that doesn't know any better, and doesn't care anymore.

ANY radio station could increase it's audience by expanding it's playlist and playing more of literally anything... dude, throw a polka song in a set, and it'll catch people's ears... folks will call their neighbors and literally go, "WTF?!?!"... something that they can only be thinking during the WTF hour when they flip over and hear the Bone play the same 3 songs XTB just did back to back... but I digress...

We don't need a station that plays more of this or that... we need a station that plays more of EVERYTHING... I suggest WMNF, 98 rock sucks, and so does the Bone... sorry Cow.

Scott....my advice to you about 98 Rock is to do what I did a long time ago....stop listening.

and don't return until there's something worth listening to...so....maybe never...

I went to satellite radio and haven't turned back since....biggest bang for the buck of any entertainment medium I can think of....crazy almost how much of a value it is when you think about it......commercial free

why beat your head against this wall....will NEVER make a difference

This coming from someone that basically likes the same music as you and actually agrees with you.....for the most part

''Sirius 23 Hair Nation".....perfect playlist, no....1000% better than any FM radio station, yes

and if you listen to 102.5.......try ''The Boneyard''.......you'll never listen to 102.5 again

see ya

.....and hair metal has been dead for 25 years. Enuff Z'nuff already!

System Of A Down followed by Poison???? Instant train wreck.

98 Rock has found a balance that seems to work for them....though I attribute their gains more to a combination of the PPM (which favors their stronger market-wide signal), music in the morning, and the addition of more traditional Classic Rock (to skim listeners away from the Eagle/Bone).

Alternative was the dominant rock genre from 1991-2000, right in the sweet spot for WXTB's target demographic. Weezer, Jane's Addiction, RHCP, Foo Fighters, Offspring, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins (though I'd rather hear "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" over "1979") all fit the format just fine, and frankly mesh better with the current crop of "Active Rockers" than Poison or Winger would. Even current mega-selling rock acts like The Black Keys, Kings Of Leon and Muse would be a better fit than some 25 year old pop-metal glam act.

The Active Rock format includes some Alternative Rock to appeal to the widest possible rock audience....get used to it. The niche model you propose (especially one based around a dated genre that peaked in 1985) no longer works with an ever-shrinking radio audience.

Scott's 98 Rock...Nu Metal, 80's spandex acts and one-hit wonders like Dokken (only if you consider The Party's dance remake of "In My Dreams"), and nothing from the 90's but Metallica and Grunge except the Smashing Pumpkins, one of the biggest grunge acts?

No. thank. you.

I thought Alternative was listening to WDUV instead of Q105. I guess I'm obtuse. What is 98 Rock? a Baltimore station?

Cedric your correct on alot of your points.. but they are better cause they are targeting the
active rock New Rock playlist top 25 now compared to even 6 months ago.

DistantFM your 100% correct.. and I listen in general @ home to rock945.com (old Z-Rock PD)
out of Spokane Wash.. In the car I listen to Cowhead or 100.7.. 98Rock I do listen to @ night
if Im in the car or I try to pick up 101.1 WJRR.

Obtuse... You fail.. I know you love your alternative nerd flannel shirt with a geek hairstyle
look of 1994.. but its 2010... Active Rock beats out Modern Rock in most areas. Active Rock
isnt that much different that 80s Hardrock-early 90s.. just no glam. Its not much different then say..
Tesla, Jackyl, Slaughter, House of Lords, Queesnrcyhe, Faith No More.. and even there is more
Metal that bands like Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies can mosh with. I would rather hear Poison on
98Rock then Weezer nerd crap. 1 thing though.. yeah we all have our opinions.

The point is this.. 98 Rock is better than 6 months ago cause they

1. Play more music

2. Play more Active Rock less 97X style bands

3. Play more New Active Rock from the Top 25 list.. most of which is what I posted 1 year
ago and alot bashed me on..... well folks... its being play now throughout the country.. just
florida was 1 of the last regions to catch on.

I dont post to bash 97X... they are a Modern Rock station.. but 98Rock is a Active Rock station.. they are heading the right direction with New Active Rock.. just need some more 80s Metal instead of the same old 90s crap. Thats for 97Xrs

Seriously---------I can tell the difference between soft, modern, mainstream, hot, and gold-based AC, but 97.1, 97.9, and 102.5 music all sounds alike to me. I guess I can easily discern what the Eagle plays is different from those others playlists, but except for a few 80's hair bands like Poison, GNR, and VanHalen that I was forced to listen too by my daughter, I really can't tell the stuff apart. Sorry. I respect youse guys who can. Maybe I'm missing something.
