99.1 & 107.1 La Jefa

I just found out that Recuerdo in Dallas has become La Jefa.

How has it changed formats? As far as I'm concerned, it's still playing Mexican Classic Hits.

It's current-based regional Mexican now, sounds like they're targetting La Raza 93.7, which pulled over 5 shares in P18-34 in the May book.

They wasted no time. Their live van has the La Jefa (the queen?) logo and paint job on it. I was behind it early this afternoon in the NW Highway-Harry Hines area.

It's playing very current young adult regional Mexican hits and very little gold. There is not one song in common with the old format.

Jefe (male) and Jefa (female) mean "the boss."

"En mi casa manda la jefa" means "at home, my wife has the last word."

So... Boss Radio is back!

They must not have the streaming fixed yet. I'm still getting Recuerdo on the website.

What's the difference between this station and La Qué Buena, anyways?

Qué Buena has a mostly talk show in the morning, and plays traditional regional; La Jefa is music intensive all day and plays a different variety of regional Mexican.

"Regional Mexican" is a record industry term used in the US and not in Mexico. It "consolidates" in one name various genres such as norteña, banda, cumbia grupera, cumbia norteña, sonidera, durangüense, ranchera, sierreño, etc., in one broad category to make it easier for non-Hispanic music retailers who would not understand the variants.

What is "traditional regional" and how does it differ from what La Jefa plays?

In nothern Texas, traditional includes Vicente and Ramon, and young adult tageted does not. Young targeted includes Lary Hernández, traditional does not.

So Mr Eduardo is La Jefa like our Estereo Latino here in houston? And La Que buena is still the same format as our que bueno too right?

Just the opposite.

Although the Houston duo is also differentiated by area of origin in Mexico... KLTN being focused on NE Mexico and Que Buena more on the rest of the country... so there is both an age difference and a regional difference.
