99.1 FM Pirate

Today I picked up a fairly strong pirate on 99.1 in the eastern portion of the San Fernando Valley.

Signal quite strong from Sylmar, to Lake View Terrace (on 210 fwy). Remained strong through Sunland and dropped out near Echo Park/Dodger Stadium.

Language appeared to be Armenian, not quite sure.

Anyone heard this pirate before? One of the strongest unlicensed signals I've come across in the LA basin.

I just checked 99.1 here in Chatsworth, but didn't hear anything
(as of 9 pm tonight). But I'll keep an ear out....

Might want to check the next time you drive through Glendale
(largest Armenian population outside of Yerevan....)

I heard it this morning, around 7 a.m. playing music.
I think it is actually in Hebrew (not Armenian, which I am more familiar with).

It may be coming from the Orthodox neighborhoods along Chandler Bl....

Re: 99.1 FM Pirate--kaput?

Last summer (around August) there was a Hebrew-language pirate operating
on 99.1 FM in the San Fernando Valley. I could hear it strongly in the
Northridge/Chatsworth area (where I used to live); it put out a decent
signal as far south as Mullholland.

I believe it was called "Kol"--something or other ("Voice of....")

I moved away in October, but I've been to the Valley three or four times
since. I check 99.1--nothing

Did the FCC catch up to them?

Anyone out there wanna take an occasional listen? (it may not operate on Saturday
(shabbat)
