99.1 is on the air

Driving into work I noticed that 99.1 was not country from Macon and in fact was 99X Atlanta. So right now 97.9 and 99.1 are 99X so maybe 97.9 will take on another format. It will be interesting to see how Cumulus plays this out. My hope is that THE FAN gets 97.9 and Comedy comes to 93.7 fm. or vice versa.

How about some signal reports on 99.1.
I listened from downtown to Douglasville last night. Signal was sold until Thorton Rd. (just past Six Flags - outside I-285) and tthen there was some occasional 99.1/Macon overrides. It was still listenable, for the most part, all the way out to Hyw 5 in Douglasville.
97.9 seems to be the real jewel of all the translators in Atlanta. It has a stellar signal everywhere - you would mistake it for a class A. 93.7 is not so good - same for 99.1. 102.9 is the worst - but it seems others on the board have had better listening than me.
Your opinions?

Keeping 99X on 99.1 would be a no-brainer... Funny 24/7 Radio, hmmm... Do you really think Cumulus will be tempted by the runaway success on that KC translator station to start placing it on stations in several markets?

99X on 99.1 will work great north of the city, but 99.1 from Macon is going to walk all over it in many places south of I-20, even more so outside of the I-285 perimeter on the south side.

Macon was walking all over it this morning even in Midtown, this is going to be an on going problem, you cannot block out a 100ker.

Holy crap...are you serious???!!! I've been waiting for this for years!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Unless Cumulus has bigger and better plans for 97.9 (like a WCNN simul), this is a downgrade for 99X and makes no sense. 250W and minimal interference for 97.9 vs. 99W and lotsa southside interference for 99.1.

So what is the other station listed on the FCC website under W258BU at 99.5FM? Does it exist also? It looks like on the map it is located somewhere up in Cobb county. The 99.1FM site appears to be broadcasting on the 1800 Briarcliff Road site (directly across from Sage Hill Kroger and up the street from Fox 5's building).

99.5 is Channel 258, the 258 in W258BU (97.9 is channel 250 as in W250BC). They changed channels so 99.5 will/has gone away. The 99.1 will be/is W256xx

99.1 comes in in stereo, at least in Alpharetta - the broadcast on 97.9 was in mono

No clue about the signal strength, but the sound quality is a lot better

I noticed that the HD3 channel opened up on 99.7 a couple of days ago. This would make sense now having the new translator station. I assume that 99X will go on HD2 and Journey 979 will go on HD3. Will 100.5 HD2 ever open up to bring in 680 the Fan? Very bad reception on 99.1 FM out in Loganville today. However, this was due to the heavy DXing going on out there this afternoon. Anyone else experience this today?

Not sure what I was thinking there, but it turns out the quality on 99.1 is the same as it was on 97.9 - whoops...

It's all Macon out here in Douglasville. Sporadic 99X reception on I-20 until you get to 6 Flags.
97.9 is mostly clear through that same area. 93.7 suffers from moderate co-channel interference but is basically listenable.
I still think the Dickeys pulled off the business deal of the century with these translators. For less than 1 million dollars they have 3 reasonably decent signals in market number 7! I think Cumulus has been doing the same thing in many other markets.
Someone at Cumulus was ahead of the curve on this one and brought the company a big payoff.

Like I said before, this freq is going to suffer as long as Macon blasts out. I am in Roswell this morning and Macon is all over it. 97.9 is much cleaner. Although there is some interference from Macon on that one too. WIBB

I have to agree with you on this one. Like him or not, Lew Dickey has pulled off some amazing things, including getting both Susquehanna and now Citadel.
