99.1 Pirate Shut Down

What I am surprised about is these guys must have been using a STL link. The 2 addresses are 2 miles away, and with the mention of the second, directional antenna, that must have been the case.

I haven't heard about too many pirates that used an STL. I also wonder what power these guys were using? I heard them from the Pinellas beaches all the way to the west side of Lakeland.

I got a real problem with local police doing the raid. This is a federal matter not delegated to the state or local government and should have been handled by US marshalls. A good attorney will easily shoot holes into it.

BTW, this pirate was so blatant it had to be shut down ASAP.

Shouldn't the local and federal police do more important things though such as finding illegal aliens and terrorists. I'm not saying they didn't need to shut down the operation just should be a lower priority, kinda like enforcing anti-smoking laws...not a priority.

It's a priority because the Florida Association of Broadcasters bought a state law outlawing pirate stations from the corrupt Florida legislature.

I'm just surprised it took over three weeks to track these guys down. They didn't deserve to be on the air for 24 hours, let alone for as long as they were.

Maybe I'm just biased because I've dipped my fingers in this dirty little hobby in the past... but I love this pirate radio stuff. I know all you guys with legit radio gigs don't get it, and I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to lose my job either...

From the coverage this station had, it must have been cranking out some serious juice. The signal was full quieting all over the bay area. I love it, and will continue to love it until I do get a legit gig... and then I will feel threatend like the rest of you.

Cheers

Cedric

Well, I could hear it south of the Hillsborough-Manatee line last weekend, as well as local level here in Clearwater. He had to be pushing 1 kW (we'll find out when the FCC dB lists the NOAL online, as they always reference the measured power). Yes, the FCC Tampa field office likely visits this page sporadically, for certain they frequent my pirate page (below addresses).

As for one of the earlier posts regarding the possible rarity of a pirate with an STL feed, it's not extremely uncommon. I am aware of several in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area that fed in this manner, which means others nationwide have/are doing the same.

As for the state law allowing local thugs to enter your home with Federal agents, don't get me started on that one.

That said, these a**clowns exceeded the envelope on power and content, and probably deserved to be silenced.

Amen brother. I couldn't have said it better. Of course as I see it, there IS such a thing as responsible pirate radio. But these dudes didn't play it smart, and that's why they got smacked down.

Hmm, no foolin'

That is the biggest contradiction I’ve heard. Responsible Pirate Radio. If you want to do radio, but not have the means of buying a station just keep it legal under part 15. Otherwise leave us the professional’s owners broadcasters which pay all the fees and licenses and are LEGAL to do our job and make a living.

Contradiction? I didn't think so, my friend. I am merely stating my opinion as someone who is well experienced in every facet of radio. There is a reason pirate radio thrives until its shut down... I'll leave that to your imagination. I myself don't listen to any local stations on the (FM) dial because I find the programming here to be nauseating. You remember how the FM band used to be ese?

And yes, these shmoes operating on 99.1 were irresponsible. However, I have met and known a good number of pirate enthusiasts that run a tighter ship than any commercial outfit in the area.

Now on to a less flammable subject... I heard Shnitt hinting today that he might be hanging it up at 970 soon. Think it's gonna happen? Bets on a replacement?

Please let it be true.

Go back to CB radio and stay there.
