99.3 Bleed....from far, far away?

Last Thursday, driving on the John Stark Hwy. between Newport and Claremont, New Hampshire.

I was listening to 99.3 WFRD out of Hanover, when all of a sudden, it dropped out entirely, and was replaced for at least a half a mile by WBT.

I got home and looked up where WBT was broadcasting from............Chesterfield, South Carolina!!!!!

I thought I was going crazy, until, sure enough, saw that WBT-FM broadcasts at 99.3.

I have heard of AM signals going to the ends of the earth....but FM???

Was this an anomaly? Or am I sniffing glue again?

Well, you COULD be sniffing glue again but that's another subject for another day and another board. ;D

It's not an anomaly. This very subject has been covered on the Boston board fairly recently but I think you get the Radio-Info prize for most recent and furthest reception.

Check the Boston board on the bottom of the first page for the post labelled "E Skip Conditions" and there may be another one a couple pages back.

I see by your location you were not up towards moo country ::)

... e-skip conditions have been very extreme this summer It has been taking out the NYC Locals here and there on my radio in Old Greenwich, CT. One way to know if there is strong DX or e-skip conditions is if you are within mid-range of a station and you are listening to radio station in HD where it will hick-up in and out since they are only 1% or the analog signals power

you can do this with VPR up in Northern New England I believe

Hey

What time did that happen on Saturday? I didn't hear it, but I was outside working on my deck with the ol' radio going. I was trying to get 92.9 WBOS in (GREAT station by the way) and I couldn't. I got "The All New Coast 93.3" in. I think it was the Coast from Providence. It was only in for a little bit though. Probably around 1-ish.

As for sniffing glue.........don't we all?

It's more likely that you were getting WNCV in FL http://www.wncv.com/ than WSNE Providence, as this was E Skip reception, not tropo.

Actaully I got Coast 93.3 in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot in Raymond, NH on Tuesday. I was trying to listen to 93.3 the wolf out of Belmont, NH. At first I thought it was the Providence station since I had heard of it before, but I believe that the stations ID that i was able to hear before the country came back in wa sjust Coast 93.3, not "The All New Coast 93.3." And, Ryan Seacrest would have been on when I got this staation in around 5PM, and I am pretty sure he wasn't. Again, this was only for a few minutes, but cool nonetheless
