99.3 WBLQ

Just had a random thought the other day about the old days when WBLQ was on 99.3 and had a pretty eclectic rock format. I guess I was still a little too young to really appreciate it at the time (in the early to mid 90s), but looking back, that station was pretty cool. Wasn't Steve Conti the "traffic troll" one of the jocks?

Oh, my God.Yes Steve worked there and so did I.I loved it.Commercial Rock radio with no playlist. It was up to the jock to play what they wanted and all request if we had it. We all pooled our CD's together and left them there in the studio. Everyone respected everyone else's music.
I did overnights 3 or 4 nights a week and Conti towards the end did the other 3 or four.
We all had our own twist but worked it around the current rock playlist with classic rock. You could drift from the core music to an oldie or disco song but do it in a manner it was nt a train wreck and in the manner you would;nt notice right away.
Everyone there had there own niche and it blended perfectly.

Rick Edwards would be Current rock with an AC twist in the morning to a more rocky midday to heavy rocky afternoon drive with a few more currents to an even heavier rock sound at Night to a slow decline to softer rock sound by 5 am and start the cycle back up again.
Every DJ's dream to have the freedom we had in those days. It was great. The best radio gig I ever had.
