His flagship station told him that. That's stupid.Like him or not he is big.He has jumped into the shoes of Casey CAsem and Dick Clark.Who in thier right mind would tell him what to do after working for those two legends.

RYAN SEACREST DRAMA OVER AT KIIS FM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to All Access, Ryan Seacrest and his on-air co-host Ellen K were told to "put a sock in it" and stop talking so much and to start playing more music in the morning, despite being in #1 in some demos. Seacrest didn't let things go smoothly for the station and ranted about it on Kevin and Bean. He even said "I like doing this but would rather do this for someone who likes me".

Casey Kasem and Dick Clark, sure...but that is for a canned and edited weekly countdown show and a New Year's Eve special on TV.
He does need to play more music, if he doesn't like it, he could always go to Satellite; but then he wouldn't get the exposure...Research does show that people listening in the morning do want some music on a music station. Butts had it down to where he was playing 4-5 songs an hour for 2 books and those were the 2 lowest books because he wqs talking too much

It always makes me nervous when I hear someone say that "Research shows.". Howard Stern had to listen to Program Directors talk about that nonsense too. But not playing music worked out pretty good for him. Am I right?

Oh yeah... I forgot my favorite example of "RESEARCH SHOWS." One that was told by Larry David. Repeated on several websites throughout the web. I invite you to go look if you care to.

------------------------------------------------
Seinfeld is one of many favorable examples of the flawed process. After testing the show with a focus group it was one of the worst ranked shows of all time. In 1989 Seinfeld aired only as a mid-season replacement but it went on to be a raging success.
------------------------------------------------

So much for Research. Sometimes you have to think outside the box and go with your gut.
