Hy Lit is doing liners now for this oldies pirate, he is promoting hylit.com and using the term, this is hylit radio. They had a few other statements using 99.3 as Wibbage Radio 99, 99.3=99. The signal has been upgraded and the stereo effect is right on the money. My question is, can a living legend jock such as Hy Lit be involved with a pirate, isn't that a no-no in the radio world, have any other legendary jocks been involved with pirate radio in the US?

It may not be the case that Hy is knowingly involved with the pirate.

A quick visit to hylit.com shows the Hy is offering an online streaming station, called Hylit Radio. It could be that the pirate is simply rebroadcasting the webstream and adding the Wibbage liners on their own.

Yep. With airchecks out there when Hy was on 99 (WIBG 990) this is easy to pull off with digital editing.

On another note, a "legendary" radio person did do pirate radio. When the FCC yanked the license for 680 and what later became Kiss 100/Y100 from Dr. Carl McIntyre, he set up a pirate station beforer being allowed to buy time on Camden's 800AM.

Hi Jim!

You're referring to the old WXUR. They were on 690, currently occupied by WPHE.
WVCH had WXUR's RCA transmitter for a backup. It's gone now; being used as a ham rig.

Thanks Dave.

I couldn't remember the call letters for the life of me. And it was 690.

Those old RCA jobs are great for 160 meters. And I remember the RCA back-up we had at WTUX. Put in a new transmitter around 1972, but the Saturay morning it was supposed to go on line from our new transmitter site, the CE called me and said it wasn't quite ready to go yet, so I should sign-on with the old RCA at the old site. Around 8am, the owner and PD walked in telling me how great the new xmitter sounded! Had to tell them that no, they hearing the rig that hadn't been used more than once a year since 1956!
