99.3 ???

where is 99.3 ? waiting for my wife in the car, i was running though the dial just in case i found something good..when i heard this station..very clear, and was playing what sounded like standards from the fifties..sinatra type stuff, orchastra type back ground arrangements..no jock was heard, or jingle..or call sign..and about one second of "savor time" between the cuts,.however, when i pulled out of the parking lot..it faded almost completely out..couldn't hear it much at all..strange since i only went 30 feet before it vanished..is this wamb ?

well, i guess i'l have to sit in front of food lion to listen..cause i can't pick it up anywhere else..lol ;D

Three entire watts from a site somewhere over near the airport.

Much to my surprise, I've heard it up here in Pleasant View.

(but only once during a band opening. Managed to hear the 100.5 translator of WGNS the same morning.)

I've picked it up in my car almost all the way to Smyrna. It starts to fade out at Waldron road in La Vergne. Can they legally be on their air at 99.3 after 1200 goes off the air for the night?

i used to see a sign with WAMB on it in an appartment complex on lebanon road close to spense lane. got a couple of small towers there kinda like cb towers..i go by there a few times a week..i'll look and see if it's still there..3 watts..wonder what that costs to set up ? sounds like that could be done in the back yard..lol

I know, and that mere three watts gets out quite far. I think that apartment complex is their's and WKDA's studio. I wonder how that set up came about.

I can pick it up here in Hendersonville on my stereo receiver (in stereo.) Stereo receivers don't really have the best radios especially the new ones where it is harder to connect rabit ears up to them.

Depends on what it says on their STA...

Normally, only a FM station can be relayed on a translator. However, the FCC has recently begun issuing MANY "Special Temporary Authorities" to relay AM stations. Since the regular rules don't allow for relaying of AM stations, the idea of what to do when the station being relayed is a daytimer hasn't been addressed.

They have opened a proceeding to routinely allow relaying of AM stations. (so that special authority would no longer be required) The proceeding proposes allowing the translator to remain on the air after a daytime-only AM transmitter has gone off. They also propose allowing the translator coverage to exceed the AM's nighttime coverage as long as it's contained within the *daytime* coverage.

Doug,

As you know, Gary Brown told me that Bill Barry has plenty of contacts in the FM branch of the media section of the FCC. He gets what he wants. Bill had that thing leased out to WAY-FM, but now that they are moving to Channel 2's tower, they won't need it anymore. Bill has an application for 1200 to realign the towers at 120 watts at night, but we all know WOAI will stomp all over that.
Adding 99.3 will increase the value of 1200. Oh don't worry he'll sell it for a huge price like he did 1160/98.7 to Bott. I think Bill is getting really up there and he wants to make sure everything is in line when he passes. Susie Bay will retain 900 WKDA and keep it leased to the Mexican group. 98.9 WANT and 1490 WCOR will float along and Susie will have it made!
