99.5 Chuck FM Greenville replaced with Jack

Seems pretty stupid to me. Same format. And it's only on a translator (and an HD3)
Then again, I vaguely remember that "Chuck" in Columbia did a big stunt a year or so ago where they asked people to name the station. They ended up keeping it "Chuck." Pretty anti-climactic.

That was Steve in Columbia that did that “break” thing.

It was probably all a branding thing. The Jack FM branding is still very popular. I know Chuck FM was being licensed from Apex in Charleston (owner of 101.7 Chuck FM there)....Apex is selling their cluster to Saga so perhaps there was uncertainty in keeping the branding so they went with Jack FM which is basically all pre packaged from the logo to the liners.

I still find it a crowded market for Magic, Earth, WROQ, AND Chuck/Jack. Earth’s 70s/80s/90s playlist really hurt Chuck FM’s ratings.

Haven’t posted here in a while but I believe this has to do with a claim from Entercom saying that they had the rights to “Chuck”. It was like two years ago when they filed some sort of claim against Summit.

I’m betting that is the reason because the cost of changing to Jack would be stupid if they had control over it.

I thought CBS originally owned "Jack." I know they briefly changed WCBS-FM in NY to Jack. (and if CBS Radio owned it, wouldn't Entercom now own it?)

Jack FM dates way back to 2002 or 2003. Sparknet still owns the rights and distributes it. CBS just happened to use it on a few stations.

The thing with Entercom was over “we play everything” because Entercom had the rights to it in the market. Chuck FM had to switch to “We play it all.”
