99.5 KISS tweaks station

From their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/995kiss

99.5 KISS Rocks San Antonio
The Lisle & Hahn morning show is starting earlier now--at 5:30am and runs til 9am. Their last hour (8am) will be commercial free. Randy Bonillas will take the airwaves at 9am and will be serving up commercial free rock during the noon hour....... LA Lloyd is on 3p to 7pm and the 5pm hour is commercial free. See the pattern?

As for the music, it's not THAT much different. We added some songs that KISS played when they were new back in the day. Some Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Three Doors Down and more. Godsmack, TOOL, Mudvayne, Korn, Slipknot and the like haven't gone anywhere. KEEP THOSE METAL FINGERS UP! We're still rockin' SA \m/See More

No surprise. Both KISS and X106.7(both Cox owned stations) tanked in the latest ratings. Look for a new format to land on X106.7. IMO, Rock is dead just like Hip Hop.

And it doesn't help univision when KLTO is off the air half the time.

So let me get this straight now. We no longer have any type of a station for new rock in this town alone? From what it sounds like, they're replicating KRock on 1027 like it was a couple of yrs back. Am I right?? Man, I've said it a thousand times over. What's with all the old, classic music in this town?? It just won't die!! Outside of the two top 40 stations, two country, and Spanish stations, its nothing but 80's and classic stuff. What the hell man. This is crazy! We'll never get a new Rock/alternative in san Antonio. Are there really that many old people that live here?!

97.7 kept the same active rock format, if I'm not mistaken. It's not like either 99.5 KISS or 97.7 played much new rock prior to adding 80s jams. Most of the playlist was 90s.

The answer is NO. The average age is 34. You also have to keep in mind SA has 3 Top 40/Chr stations in Top 5(18-34).

I'm curious to see what Cox does to 106.7.

Maybe this is just a guess. But I'm thinking the way the economy has been lately, the lion's share of disposable income would be in the 35+ crowd, not the younger demos. That probably influences the decision to skew older.

People always cry about not having an alternative/new rock radio station, but no one ever mentions KSYM FM, you know, that obscure student run radio station from SAC. Although they don't play that type of format all of the time, they do have a segment featuring that music or something like it. And yes, San Antonio's rock music radio is boring, tired, lame and repetitive. It always has been and always will be, unless someone whips out their debit card and sets up their own radio station. When that happens, its a sure bet that experts will criticize the format and playlist. Long live the Sony Walkman cassette player!

I still listen to radio off a am/fm cassette player. I am glad I am not the only one that does but it does seem like it. If I am Houston it's straight up cassettes unless I have battery life in my HD radio walkman, and got 100 percent reception. KSYM was the station I listened to when I couldn't DX stations from Houston (at the time when radio was good down there) KSYM does play Alternative Rock, as well as House, Electronic. I still think KISS should move to 101.1 as Rock101 KISS, try Alternative on 99.5 (they probally will put some form of talk radio on it instead) move KONO to KSMG as Magic 105 is back Good Times and San Antonio's Greatest Hits, and move Magics Hot AC format to 1067 as KMIX but as a pure Adult Contemporary format. This type of retrofitting might work for Cox Radio.

FYI... For those in San Antonio, alternative rock plays on KZEP-FM HD 2 channel.

Are u sure?? I thought it was a erockster format or whatever it's called, where they play a wide mixture of rock from different decades and stuff. Unless they changed it?? I can hope??

well... when I was last in SA, the HD2 channel played the same songs that I hear on 101x.

HD radio? How many people in the entire country have an HD radio or even able to recognize one? And its not actually HD, its DIGITAL radio, as opposed to ANALOG radio that the majority listen to. HD radio has limited range and mostly poor audio compared to analog. Its a lot like digital OTA TV, its all or nothing, ultra weather sensitive and doesn't always work in moving vehicles. And there are no handheld portable digital radios, like analog radios, they're too powerhungry and can't maintain a signal lock. Its cheaper and less of a hassle to listen on the internet, if its offered.

Yeah, but the audio quality is really crappy.

I have a handheld HD radio - I got a couple months ago from best buy.
It's pretty cool.

Really? How does "cool" translate into operating characteristics, performance or listening satisfaction? What type of antenna does it have? How is reception? Can you get all of the "HD" stations available, from all or only certain parts of town? How is power consumption? How does it compare, performancewise, to a comparably priced ANALOG handheld radio?

Does an internet capable cellular telephone qualify as an "HD" radio if it is accessing a broadcast radio station's webstream? Afterall, a mobile or cell phone is actually a two way radio that connects to a cell site, which in turn routes the "transceiver" to the telephone system or the cell carrier's internal network. Without the cell network, its only a paperweight.

It's an Insignia portable HD radio with a headphone jack (no speaker, sorry.) It only picks up FM, but Who listens to AM any more?

It has a rechargeable battery that lasts pretty long. It picks up stations great because it doesn't have the background noise from stations if the station you're trying to hear has a weaker signal than stations around it. It tunes into the station great. It was around $40.

I don't think a Cell Phone qualifies as an HD radio.

The HD Radio Walkman Insignia (Touch Screen Version) I have picks up HD good on the Northeast Side of San Antonio, but in Austin cuts in and out for example 103.5 HD2 and 95.5 HD2 you can't walk up the street without it cutting in and out. But Clear Channel stations come in good on HD like 96.7 HD2 in Austin, and 101.9 HD2 in San Antonio. If I go under a bridge it cuts out (like listening to AM 760 when it was KSJL in the car and going under a road bridge back in 1992 before it moved to FM) I call HD Radio "FM wannabe AM"

Please remember the Hybrid Digital signal has only 1% of the power of the main analog signal. So the main signal maybe pumping out 100,000 watts, but the Hybrid Digital channel is only 1,000 watts.
