99.5 The Bear Lubbock

I've read a little about the recent changes at 99.5 The Bear in Lubbock. Could 99.5 become to Lubbock what 98.1 KVET is to Austin? It seems like the combination of Texas country and classic county would be a smash in Lubbock. I've always equated Texas county with alternative music in Lubbock.

Oh gawd, do you have any idea what you're starting?
Some guy who probably works for CC is gonna come on here, and say how wonderful the Bear is doing, and how they're selling more spots, and everything. Then someone form KLLL is gonna come on and say "yeah, but KLLL is the number contry station, and Rick and Jane are old, etc" and it's gonna go back and fourth until people get tired of reading it.

Personally, I could care less about either station, I HATE hillbilly music!
Pandora's box is wide open now...

Yo Garrett,

Did you by any chance work at KLZK back in the late nineties? I think that I may have worked with you back when the station was classic rock.

We're sorry there are other opinions and ideas other than your Garrett. Grow up, this is suppossed to be an OPEN FORUM about radio. Not the "what Garrett approves of" pages.

Indeed!
I was hired when it was still Classic Rock. By the time my first shift was scheduled, the station had flipped to Kiss.

Good times!
(Too bad I didn't staty, but that's another story...)

Let me translate for yawl what that means:
"Hey Garrett, I want to use the board to bash the compeitition and act like a highschool kid, so don't get in my way."

You are the one who needs to grow up pal!
And what do you mean "WE" Kimosabie?

The real question is who's left at the Wilks Property. Probably only the loyal employees. Sales seems to be doing the best ever. At least thats what I hear.

It's Okay to talk about Radio here. That's the point of the board... I'll ask a question to all. What's the thing about radio that is missing now that you miss? Local contests? Exciting content? Good Personalities?

What is radio missing?
Edited by radioezp on 03/09/06 09:17 PM.

I think we should have a CHurban station!
Might be cool, huh?
I wonder if anyone is thinking of doing that right now?
What do you think, EasyPeasy?

Gary Roberts?? Stopless music The New KISS 104.3

I am trying to dust the cobb webbs off. I only worked at KLZK about 3 months. I left KLZK about a week before the flip to rhythmic. I thought they did a good job of keeping it secret. I did not even know about it. Too bad they let CLuck go. I really thought he was one of Lubbock's better radio programmers.

Rivercanoe! Hey DM is that you? I was thinking to myself ....Man, Rivercanoe? Rivercanoe? That sounds real familiar? then the old ezboard site came to mind and I realized that it was my old buddy Dave! Email me sometime, or hell come to LBB and we'll have a beer.

Dunno, think alternative is the hole.

Love to see jocks getting out again, getting a personal touch with listeners. Give them the passion that they used to have in th 60's-80's

Alternative? Hmmm. I've thought of putting Alternative on the air, but then I did some check, and Alternative isn't really a growing format right now. I think KTXT and KFMX handles that crowd around here. CHurban on the other hand? I bet someone tries that in Lubbock real soon!

DM? As in Dave Morales?
Dave, I got airchecks of you somewhere...

Can I join you guys in that Beer? I'd like to know what Dave knows (and I think we got off on the wrong foot)...

I was only there a couple of months too, after it flipped. No, I'm not Gary.
Sorry. We probably never met.

Interesting thing about that. When I got hired, Ram took me in to see Chuck Hinze, (it was still Classic Rock at that point). They had all these red chocolate kisses on the desk and Chuck turned me around and said "nope, can't see that, but we are making a change and you will freakin' love it."

And I did, until the dance music became rap music 2 weeks later...

Ron! It's been a few years that's for sure. I will definitely let you know the next time I'm up in Lubbock. I've been looking for an excuse to visit the Hub.

No Garrett, I'm Dave McL aka (David Allan KRLB, and for a brief time Dave the janitor KLZK). I am not a big name in radio. I did weekends for a couple of years and loved it. Let's all hook up for a beer when I come to town... Give me a shout at (my username at yahoo).

Hmmm..What is CHurban? That's a new one for me.

Re: Moving Right Along

CHurban (if I've got the name right), is a mix of Hip-Hop, and Regaton, with some CHR mixed in. On many of these station, the DJ's speak in both Spanish and English. It's a growing format, and is on in both Amarillo and Midland now. A good example would be B93in Midland-Odessa.

"We" means those of us actually in radio, and not just poseurs like "you".

OK, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

> "We" means those of us actually in radio, and not just

You don't work in radio, since:
1. You won't tell use your identity and:
2. You won't tell us what station you work for.

So, officially you don't work in radio, and you don't speak for ANYONE.
And you are not a moderator, and you don't get to decide who gets to post and who doesn't.

Now really, can we move on?

Re: OK, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I speak for most of the radio people in town. We would rather not have poseurs represent themselves as the mainstream of Lubbock radio talent. Lubbock is actually an above average market in terms of the quality of radio stations. In many cases Lubbock has talent that can and has worked major markets but choose to make the Hub their home. As a radio proffesional in this town, I'd rather outsiders not think that the comments that have been on this board are representative of the Lubbock radio community as a whole.

P.S. How about you other employed radio guys out there? Am I picking on the poor boy, or has this just been "Garrett-Land" for too long? Please post. I'll go away if you want to keep this a place where part-timers and wannabees rule the roost.
