99.7 & 94.1 together: The "Q STAR"

In the early 90s (this was posted on the www.thepowerpig.com tribute site some time back but right now isn't available) Brian James produced some cuts (whether it was a joke or actually a possibility) that never aired about Tampa's "The Power Pig" and Q105 merging .... had liners like "The Q, The Pig, Together, Forever ....".

Which got me to thinking, when the Dicky boys finally buy 94.1 for pennies on the dollar, how about a Star 94 and Q100 branding merger? Just think, the logo would be a big "Q" with jet trails of "stars" coming out of it! On the new "Q STAR": Bert Show in mornings, Cindy & Ray in the afternoons, and from 10a-3p give it up for Marco, Shannon, and Super Phat Mikey: The MIDDAY Mess!

I can just hear the imaging out of the :50 stopset now ....

99.7 & ("to the left, to the left") 94.1: Q100, Star 94 -- The Q STAR .... with the Bert Show in the morning, Cindy & Ray in the afternoon, and introducing Marco, Shannon, and Super Phat Mikey: The MIDDAY Mess ... and ten songs in a row every hour of all the hits on the stations voted number 1 to always have a better variety of today's hit music .... calling out another birthday next hour guaranteed on your home of the free money birthday buzzer game ... pick your plastic .... pick your pump .... pick your frequency .... 99.7 & 94.1: The Q STAR. Atlanta's biggest, most powerful clearest signals. Q. STAR. Together ...... forever".

Or they could just dust off the "94Q" moniker and be done with it...

It'd probably be the first time in radio history that two 100kW stations city-grading each other in the same market did a simulcast...but hey-there's a first time for everything...

It'd open up a frequency for (take your pick) alternative, hot talk, classic country, Beautiful Music, or 80s... Put Beautiful Music on 99.7 and buy the WLTA calls from Salem...

Wait, I just realized, two Atlanta Cox stations have buzzers. 955 The Beat has "Beat The Buzzer", B98.5 has the "B Money Buzzer". This is generally not a problem as B98.5 and 95.5 The Beat's audience are mutually exclusive. So much so rumor has it that Cox will be having Steve & Vikki voicetrack afternoons on the Beat as "Thumpin' Phil & The Lockemister". Appearently Cox has Steve, Vikki, Jordan Graye, Kate McCarthy, Thumpin' Phil, and Lockemister locked in a conference room several hours a day doing corporate knowledge transfer on how to execute that plan.

Hey it would be 200,000 watts of flame-throwing hit music power.

I'm sure the sales weasels would love to pitch that...kind of like the old "WSB only has one tower--we have FOUR!!!"

You could Pick Your Plastic or Pick Your Pump! Better yet, they could combine the 2 contests into Pick Your Nose--plastic surgery to look like your favorite American Idol contestant.
