Take A Clue, Buy A Clue, Steal A Clue, Find A Clue, Borrow A Clue, Make A Clue!
But Please! Wake up, and give your listeners something, anything, that we can get excited about listening for, and excited about being able to particpate in as the station moves into the future. Anything but the lame music presentation and imaging now in use!!!!

Allison Marie,

You and I see eye to eye on this one. I'm willing to give the format a chance but the imaging is horrible.

I spent the last week in San Jose and listened to KFRC on and off and something didn't feel right. How's that for vague?<P ID="signature">______________

Yes it is a sad state of afairs for once great and inovative call letters.
This was the Gold Standard of Top 40 in the 60s and 70's. When the attemted the
Game Zone, it was dumb but inovative, Then when they went oldies on FM and simulcast on am, oh well, at least they did it well for the most part and they had a stand alone format. Now they are just clones of KOIT,KIOI,KBAY etc.
As a SF "lifer" This format sounds like every consultants Homoginized, Sanitzed
Dream. It is one step away from somthing they could automate...Hmmmm.
Contrived is the word that works best for me. I am always amazed that they think
the Bay Area, Afluent and Well Educated as the Demographics seem to show we are,Is thougth of as dumb and gulible by Consultants. Example, I Love the TV ad where they have an Asian Girl with a Cal Scarf on and an Asian Guy with a Stanford Sweat Shirt on...Wow Subtle !
Music Radio seems to be dead at the hands of they guys who are claiming to be here to save it. And Free FM is not gonna save Radio because Music radio is dead either...Radio has ceased to be interesting, The music you can get anywhere
which is the real problem. Why listen to Music Radio ?

My Boss keeps asking me why KOIT does so well, REALLY he does, He says they arent doing anything very intersting except playing music...My answer is you are right, But they do "nothing" better than anyone on radio. That "is" a format. Just play the music. Keep your Spots to 12 min an hour, and don't talk to the audience, when you do talk, like they are dumb. Koit doesn't and never has. It's working for them on KDFC too.

KFRC is trying to hard to sound like they are different, And they are not.

After listening to hours and hours of airchecks of 99.7 KFRC-FM from the beginning to now this is my assesment of the station then and now!

From the very end of X100 on 99.7 and the beginning of 99.7 KFRC-FM's Oldies format the people programing the station made it fun, interesting, cool, and a real pleasure to listen to with great personalities, great imaging, and very good jingles that talked to and invited listener interaction with the station.

What Doug Harvill and his so called partner in this format are forcing down the listeners ears is so bogus it is a shame. My goodness KSTN 1420's Power Oldies
format in Stockton, CA. sounds better than this slop on 99.7. Why do they think
this boring presentation is so necessary?

RX:
Start the music around 1962 and go until the end of 1986. Then with the help of a good computer list of the music from those years, and interaction of real human beings upon that list with a few selections made by the on-air staff that lived thru that
time listening to the music on the radio, or on the radio playing it.
Let them direct the flow of the music with a bit of common sense added to an upbeat presentation and jingles and imaging that brings back the feeling of 610 KFRC as it sounded then, if done this way, this 99.7 KFRC would never be as "Stale and Sterilized" as it sounds right now! Also, don't forget listener requests for their favorite songs!

Sterilized: to make powerless or useless usually by restraining from a normal function, relationship to listeners, or "participation of" d : to be free from living organisms using exceptional human mentality and knowledge of music history with a seemingly endless supply of common sense, great imaging, and jingles along with news, sports and weather to program a radio station. Also, add just a bit of 50's early rock and roll to spice up the flow of the stations
format!

What's on now is useless and extremely ill conceived and executed!
Hey Dougeee poo, Take a Clue! Really! And by the way, Why not hire Gary Bryan
for the morning show and move Cammy and Dean into afternoon drive?

What they should have done is gradually add more 70's and early hit 80's roughly 82-83 into the program wheel. Play 60% of 70's/80's (still mostly 70's) and 40% 60's. Mostly hits from late 67 on up. With exception of Motown and some Beatles or some British invasion.....Kinks, Stones, going back to 64-65.

Just to continue that oldies feel. Keep the same delivery image and present KFRC more towards the "Bay Area'a favorite hits".
Up date the jingles with the same notes and tune of KFRC without mentioning oldies. Just the Bay area's favorite hits without the three ring circus presentation of a whole new era coming. Shift it quietly even though the postees on this board would notice it in 10 minutes.

So RKO owned stations before 1991?

Oh, my. We have multiple threads going on the same subject...

RKO General owned numerous stations around the country, and bought the old Don Lee network on the West Coast (including KFRC and KHJ) in 1949.
