99.7 Prediction

Classic Hits of the 60s, 70s, & 80s ala Worcester's Pike considering Citadel's success with that station
Just the hits...nothing too deep...more rock-based than B101
Probably jockless unless they spring for at least a morning show
Animal moniker although I think calling themselves The 99 wouldn't be a bad idea

KKB type rock would fail. Too much HJY loyalty & no weak spots.
Country against WCTK would fail for the same reasons.
Citadel has AC, CHR, & Urban covered.
B101 has gradually evolved so listeners haven't had years to build up any loyalty & the station still plays some 60s & 70s pop that a rocker wouldn't touch.

Frankly I would go with a more Cool 102 type playlist but I don't think that will happen.

Bring on the foliage.

My Predication or hopes on 99.7 would be a Cool102/Hawk type playlist.

Possibillities....

FM-talk.

Only because of what happened WSUB.Flipping WPRO-AM to Spanish.Don't laugh it could happen.I also had to think of the most outragous thing for a possibility.

Another possibility could be 80's/90's type of deal.

99.7 would be good for "Spike" "Mike" or "Jack" formats. My perfect "Spike" line-up would be:05:30-10:00 - Mancow
10:00-12:00 - All Comedy Radio
12:00-15:00 - Jim Rome
15:00-19:00 - Don & Mike
19:00-22:00 - Tom Leykis
22:00-00:00 - Loveline {Sunday-Thursday}

And paying tribute to a legendary figure in Prov politics:

99.7 "BUDDY" FM

A certain restaurant-pub chain may object but I get the pun!

"You'll always come back for more"

And since I just watched Hi Fidelity for the umpteenth time & am in music-snob mode, I still think a triple-A format could work as part of a cluster if given patience & sold the right way to the right sponsors.

How about a Sports & Rock Format? That'll be the next big thang.

A rock station/Sports

What if WEEI would play music with thier talk shows? A song or two an hour.
Music you would hear at sporting events.

Shook me all night long by AC/DC
Get Jiggy with it by Will Smith
Tequila-Champs etc.

All sprinkled in.

People listen to WEEI for sports talk, not music. They're doing great in the ratings, why change anything?

If there is a lock on the PRO-FM night slot to focus on this station then that tells me Tony Bristol is overseeing it.I don't discount him as a programmer but discount what kind of product he can put out given what he has to work with. Will Citadel give him a 4th station to be responsible for or have they hired a PD internally or externally?

The Edge didn't last.Z100 failed.KKB was sent to Fairhaven to fail. The Hawk failed. They will not sink money into this station and may very well be setting up a spin-off.I would not be surprised if they flipped it to a Jack or Mike type format that plays everything. It would be unstaffed and compete against both Coast and B101/

Citadel Providence may do a decent job keeping up the tradition with their heritage stations even if all they do is rest on past laurels. They do not have a reputation for stellar results when it comes to rolling out a new product.

The thing that has hindered 99.7 has been the location of their transmitter and power. They're a class A located in Exeter. 103.7 is on the same tower, but does better because it has more power. 99.7 lacks good reception in Providence. The biggest mark that 99.7 ever made was when it pulled a 3.0 as 99.7 The Edge several months after the station went on the air (when it was still jockless, I believe). Since then, it has floated between a .7 and 1.5 (if that).

I think the best thing that station could do is (as someone else suggested) go toward a classic hits/rock format similar to 100.1 The Fox in Worcester (which has done well in Worcester), with a hint of Cool 102. 99.7 does cover beach areas pretty well, which would make the station appealing to beach goers in the summer. I doubt that the station would ever pull a 3.0 ever again, but a 2.4 or something could be considered a success. Also, don't forget that 99.7 covers New London County fairly well.

The other option is a simulcast of Hot 106. I wish Hot 106 was a better station to simulcast though.

I agree,A lousy song would make me want to change stations.
Doesn't someone in N.Y. mix music and sports?
