99.7-The Fox' "70s' Weekend"

PD Jeff Kent, come on!

You've got to be kidding me!

This is the 1st "special" weekend they've had in years, & they play the same, ridiculous repetition that they have for the past decade!

Pink Floyd & Fleetwood Mac!

I have nothing against these groups, but this is what they regularly program!

Charlotte needs an Active Rocker!

What a shame that a talented, gifted Radio Host/Personality like Mr. Bill has to play this lack of variety for a so-called "70s'" weekend.

How about a VARIETY weekend?

What a waste of 100kw!

Maybe it's a preview of what to come in the near future???!?!?!

He has been the PD there for longer than most are in the business. I agree that the Fox as a whole is stale and lackluster, talent is mailing it in. At the same time, it's served them well. Would you expect anything different considering ratings and ownership?

Very typical for Clear Channel. All of their classic rock stations turn the same 300 over and over and over.....
Zeppelin, Floyd, F Mac.....on an on.

Sad news. One of the best 'power jocks' of the last 40 years. I remember hearing Ron on WPGC in the mid 70s. It's rarely mentioned, but he worked briefly on WNBC. Late 70s, early 80s. Too bad so many have passed away this year. Big Jack...Wally Phillips, and others!

Like the recycled songs you complain about I must say this is a recycled post. You post variations of the same thing over and over and over and over.

First of all do you think Jeff Kent is reading your posts or gives a rip what you think? How much power do you think he has? I would bet after whatever consultant they use and the Clear Channel corporate Program Director Jeff might be able to make a few suggestions.

"Charlotte needs and Active Rock station" Wow didn't see that coming! Okay put on the suit go call on a few businesses and sell them on your format idea. Then show CBS, Clear Channel or Radio One the money they could make with the format and get them to put you in charge. If you waved enough cash in front of them they might give you a HD channel to play with. That is if you believe there is really a market for Active Rock. You could even offer to buy a block of time on a station then sell your own commercials.

Most listeners don't understand these special theme weekends. They don't care and just want to hear what they expect to hear from a radio station. You wouldn't believe how many times I received calls from people who asked for songs that were not even close to a show's theme!

I know this sounds unsympathetic and harsh but in reality I share your frustration even though my taste in music is different than yours. Radio is a for profit business, now more than ever. They want a mass audience not a 2 share. Show them a mass audience in the right demographic that will listen to white noise and there will be an all white noise station!

I'm very happy with the variety of programming on XM.

Hey Mike,

I don't care if J. Kent reads my posts or cares what I think - but I hope he does.

Like you said, after the consultant, CC corporate & Jeff himself, he might be able to make a few suggestions, but, I'm sure most of them are not listened to, & he must be frustrated himself.

Working for Cox Radio myself, I know what Mass Appeal repetition is.

Research shows that that audience wants to hear specific artists within a fifteen-minute time frame.

You didn't see my comment that "Charlotte Needs An Active Rocker" coming? Okay, I've posted it before, but don't you even think it would be viable?

After all, we're talking about terrestrial Radio, not HD or Satellite.

Agreed that Active Rock is not Mass Appeal, but I guarantee that a true Active Rocker in Charlotte would get better numbers than 106.5-The End.

95.7-The Ride/WXRC was a great station with better new & classic rock (better than the Fox has) when they had Howard. IMHO, they should have kept Howard (even though this is the Bible Belt) - but, they should have kept the music programming the same.

A perfect example of a Classic Rocker & an Active Rocker working in unison is Entercoms' sister stations Active Rocker 93.3-The Planet-WTPT-Forest City/Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson & Rock101WROQ that serves the same cities - the Planet has alot of listeners in Charlotte, & the stations rate equally in the Greenville market. That shows you that Charlotteans want a true Active Rocker. A few Active Rock songs on The End is not doing it. Mark Hendrix is one of the best PDs' in the country.

I will admit that I'm not an expert when it comes to Active Rock. Some station should try it though. Have you heard WEND-HD2? There is a music format on now. The comedy is gone, I don't know if it's Active Rock, it might be some kind of Alliterative Rock.

I don't think radio is where most computer savvy people look for new music. My daughters tend get it from "You Tube" there is a lot of music being posted there. I have even found old stuff there.

Let's face it we're spoiled by a wealth of sources for music and entertainment. For most people with a casual interest in music radio is fine. Real music fans who want to dig deeper, quickly get bored with what radio offers.

Thanks for reporting the problem with the audio on WODS, I heard it too and thought this won't get them ratings.

Mike,

I haven't heard WEND-HD2, but I'll check it out.

That's funny - instead of Alternative Rock, it should be Alliterative Rock as you say or Illiterate Rock as I say!

Some of that Rock (like they play on my college station now) you just can't understand the words.

Agreed that Radio is not where most computer-savvy people look for new music - I check a lot of music out myself on YouTube.

At least we have some good Rock concerts this season in Charlotte - Kid Rock, Crue Fest, RATT, etc.

Do you really think the issue w/the audio on WOLS would impact their ratings, & that the average listener really noticed?

Check my update on the WOLS post.

oops typo on the alternative rock ;D

Good point, maybe I'm just a pick when it comes to audio. Then again I put up with XM.

I'm impressed that WOLS has an aux transmitter!
