99.9 Tallahassee welcomes "HANK"

All Access reports that WEGT-FM Tallahassee has dumped its satellite-delivered oldies format in favor of a "Jack" like format as "99.9 HANK FM". It's a mix of music from the 1960's to the early 1990's.

Any thoughts out there?

Can someone tell me why they decided to call it "Hank"?? Emmis chose this name in Indy for their Jack-esque approach to *Country*....The Tallahassee "Jack" clone is a Classic Hits station, and I'm still trying to figure out why "Hank" if they are not playing "Hank".

bossmsx,

They named it "Hank" after the new GM, Hank Kestenbaum. This station was
purchased by Opus Broadcasting on May 1st as it was a part of the Triad cluster.

I'm in the market, and have worked in radio in this market for years, and I believe Kestenbaum has actually worked at these same stations before. They changed hands a number of times so I don't know which company he worked under before but the name is familiar.

99.9 seems to have some signal problems in parts of the city and I know it can't be picked up in some of the office bulidings. It was signed on originally in the early 90s by an FSU classmate of mine, Brian Rowland. The tower then was
several miles out of the city limits, at Wacissa. I don't know if that's still the case.<P ID="signature">______________

Having worked in that market nothing supriese me. How can Opus media pay 12.5 miilion for those four stations to begin with. Then they fire the GM and GSM who had turned around the stations and brought back a old GM who had failed before.

Failed???? What are you talking about? His goal was to get the stations to a point where they could make a profit from them when they were sold . . .which he did. Not only did that happen but when they bought the stations back the stations were in the crapper so there is another opportunity to make a huge profit, I've worked for Hank before and would recommend it to any up-and-coming jock. It's one of the last opportunities they'll have to work in radio like how it used to be . . .fun and exciting.

Are you being serious? They fired the GM and GSM because they were completely inept at every aspect of the business. Well, every aspect except for the bullshitting aspect.

I know them both personally, they both made a ton of money off of the stations when they sold them the first time. They sold the stations for 15+ million, made a big chunk of change and bought them back at 12.5 . . . how is that inept? Whatever you think of the way they ran the stations doesn't matter, the bottom line is that they make $$ off of the staions.

Hmm Interesting but WRONG. The old GM turned WAIB from a 4.1 to 6.2 in a year.
WEGT from a 2.7 to 3.5 and WUTL from a 1.7 to 2.8.

Revenue incresed on all four stations. How can they be inept.

I think the whole thing is funny. Glad to see Jaydolph get what he gave many others, the door although I'm sure he will bounce back to Triad if he hasn't already. As for Chris he was a good guy but lost control when Jaydolf came to town. Either way maybe the building can get back to the fun that it was all about back in its hayday. By the way Cash and Carrie helped give WAIB the numbers it had plus Country music trends just started to rebound this year. Remeber music patterns always come back.
