99.9 The Crow

I am not seeing anything on radio-loctor.com. i am not sure waht is going on unless it is a new rimmshot for North Texas. They would have to protect Waco won't they?

Probably a Ramsey or if he's got money to burn a Broadcast Warehouse transmitter.

Keep it legal (100mw) and have fun.

Found this under "About Us"

99.9's Coverage area is 62 Housholds with an estimated 189 people if each house has 3 people residing in it.

So in English, this is a station that has a 100 kw transmitter, in a house, that broadcasts to a neighborhood in Mckinney and the antennas are placed near windows on the 2nd floor? Am i close to being corect?

I don't think they are doing anything illegal... More from "About Us""

1650 is a Part 15 Radio Station Broadcasting to the community of Eldorado Heights in McKinney, TX.

1650 offers 24 Hour Talk Programming from TalkRadioX. And Is The AM Flagship of TRX.

1650 broadcasts with 100 mW of electrical power from a 10 ft Antenna mounted on the 1st floor window of the Studios.
1650 complies with part 15 of the FCC Code and Regulations. What this means is basically we shall not exceed 100 mW, our antenna will NOT be over 10 ft in length, including the transmission line and ground.

99.9 FM is a part-15 compliant Transmitter. FM Part 15 Rules are different and do not require a specific Antenna height or Power. But Do Require A Limit On The Range Of The Station to about 300 feet or so.

99.9 Broadcasts from a 3 1/2 ft antenna mounted next to the AM Transmitter Antenna.

99.9FM uses an FCC Certified Transmitter. C Crane FM Transmitter. FCC ID:BYG006

99.9 Primarily plays music from 1955 to 1979

Both 1650 and 99.9 Are Owned And Operated By Green Broadcast Media.

You're not really supposed to use a fictitious callsign (KQRO if it is being used as an ID) on Part 15 but I doubt anyone will be bothering him. ;)

Sounds like he has fun with Part 15 as a hobby so I won't knock him. I've seen some people spend quite a bit of money on equipment. I also have a CCrane FM transmitter & a SStran AM transmitter as well, but just for experimenting or goofing off with ZaraRadio free software.

Fun for OTR broadcasts to antique radios, like playing War Of The Worlds around Halloween.

This might give yall a bit of insight:

Funny how I stumbled across it... On another post someone posted they thought that 97.1 should go news/talk. So, out of curiosity, I Googled the calls KEWS FM (former DFW FM news station 1996-97) just to see if they were being used and your site popped up. : )

Ah yes KEWS. That Was a good station. I used the KEWS Calls for a while back when i was on 1650 under the name Mighty 1650 then as Mighty 100 on FM Till i dropped the "Mighty" and Went to
99.9 The Crow. I resurrected the KQRO calls for the Crow, I had wanted KROW but they are being used.

You ever thought of going for a LPFM? With third adjacent protection going away soon, there should be some open frequencies in McKinney. Not that 99.9 would be a bad choice, I doubt WACO would have an issue with it.

KLUR and KMOO would be some other issues I would Imagine.

LPFM would be a cool Idea! But Money wise, not so much LOL.

Ive thought about it, and if the opportunity ever arose I would take it.

There's an open allocation for 99.9 up in Van Alstyne (reserved for noncommercial use -- the FCC is opening a filing window in December) -- so an LPFM on 99.9 in McKinney would not be possible. In any event, an LPFM still would have to meet 1st and 2nd adjacent interference requirements, and 2nd adjacent with 99.5 and 100.3 out of Dallas would be a problem.

For someone interested in serving McKinney with a non-commercial station (since LPFM is also noncom), applying for 99.9 in Van Alstyne during the coming filing window would be the best bet. If you have the money to build a 6 kw station, that is...

For Personal Reasons I hope that 99.9 in Van Alstyne does not go through...
if it went through the only open channel left would be 95.7 and thats not nearly as quiet!
that 2nd adjacent rule seems kind of silly doesn't it? i would think a Class C would hurt an LPFM more than an LPFM hurting a Class C.

An LPFM would be either 10watts or 100watts a class A station is 6kw..
