This is the question that is 'fun' to discuss (SatNiteLive skit... We feel verklempt. Discuss among yourselves)...

Did they really vault to #1, in local sports radio? I don't care what the ratings bks say. Numbers can be manipulated, to say anything. There is a famous sociology bk called-

Statistics

The pt of that bk, is that peo that put ALL their faith in stats... will miscalculate many things.

The 100K question (boy, w/ inflation... that used to be allotta monee):

What do the numbers mean?

Senario I:
The Triangle Sports fans luv the local hosts of the Fan... far more than anyother local guys... & as far as the national programming, they no longer like ESPN radio.

The Fan has live games & coaches sho's... That 'draws' the peo. When you add the ratings of 620/850 together... They are still #1.

They threw in a disclaimer about "#1 by cume spring" or something like that at the end of that promo. It was qualified.
I guess that's because their signal is bigger, they're on FM, they have had six months of ads on Fox50 and WRAL-TV and FM, but I'm sure there's a less jaded reason The Fan would supply if you asked them, man. ;)

The Buzz's ads for their #1 claims don't have the qualification/disclaimer, so they might be talking about "among WRBZ hosts and staff but not including the WDNC office staff" (they probably listen to Mix101.5) or something convoluted like that.

Hey P...rule #1...only post when sober! You appear to be arguing with yourself! Numbers are all that matter with agencies, and owners. Buzz barely beat 99 in share 12+, 99 edged out Buzz in 12+ cume. It's okay for both to brag all they want. However, the Buzz is nuts for reacting to anything 99 does...another golden rule. When you're the leader, stay focused and ignore the mind games. The audience could careless who is number one.

The hosts @ 850 are more popular, but the Roy/Woody THeel show, brings them more fans.

sounds like the BCS to me.
how i HATE the Bowl Championship Series.
claim the Associated Press.
claim Coaches.
claim RPI.
claim the Chinese judge in the Olympics.
anyway....it's internal...nobody else cares.
 
One of 'em ought to just brand themselves as "The Number 1 Source For Sports" and call it a day. No disclaimer, no worries about changing the promo after a new book comes out or after the promo gets stale. Anybody can be #1 with one legged lesbians.

Your #1 Source For Sports, 99.9 The Fan. Hmmm, Catchy.
 
According to WRAL.com, 99.9 has picked up exclusive Westwood One programming for sports. This means NFL games, March Madness, College Football and more. This can only help the station...
