99.9 The Fan names Hampton Roads host for afternoon drive slot

Per the Raleigh News and Observer, Capitol Broadcasting has tapped Hampton Roads sports host Tim Donnelly for afternoon drive on WCMC "99.9 The Fan", begining in mid-July. Donnelly, current host of The Tim Donnelly Show on WVSP "ESPN 94.1" Yorktown/Norfolk/Virginia Beach, is a former University of Delaware quarterback who also fills in as a weekend host on CBS Sports Radio. Dennis Cox, the producer of The OG with Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio until its late-April cancellation who has served as interim afternoon drive host alongside WRAL-TV's Chris Lea, will remain as Donnelly's producer and will have an on-air presence.
N&O article

Ovies + Giglio moved on to podcasting and have even built a studio in downtown Raleigh. They took several sponsors with them. You love to see it.

Still don't understand Capitol letting them go.

Who knows! It’s Capital loss!

I guess we can still be happy that Capitol is keeping the slot local and not going for any syndicated hosts? Though it does not appear that Tim Donnelly has any connection to the Triangle market or North Carolina in general.

I would very much like to hear the inside scoop on why Ovies and Giglio were dropped from WCMC-FM. Maybe they were asking for too much money, more than their ratings justified? WCMC has never been a ratings standout, but from as far I can tell, The OG had build a pretty loyal following.

Anyway, podcasting is probably the future, and their sponsors have followed them. The N&O even jumped in and you can now listen to their show through the N&O website.

Technically it has been a rating standout!
