99.9 WFXQ Update

Apparently, the change on 99.9 is about to happen. The group in South Hill/Chase City, VA has moved ABC's 'Stardust' format to it's AM station, 1370 WSHV. They are currently simulcasting, with frequent promos saying 'The music you grew up with has a new home...1370 AM". Stay tuned...

There was an article in the Henderson Dispatch today (10/10) detailing the changes from the Lakes Media standpoint, though there were no details on Capitol's plans. According to both the article and on-air announcements, 99.9 will sign off today. In a related item, is there any word on Raleigh translator W260AB, 99.9 (translator for WAJC, 90.5 in Wilson)? They were to go dark when WFXQ made the move to Creedmoor.

Monday, the AM was simulcasting one of their Country FMs?? Must've been some kind of automation screw-up.

New station signs on Thursday although expect stunting until marketing hits next week. Management is playing the Top Secret game but format is worst kept secret in town going back to a research study last summer. Signal will not cover the metro even after the tower is moved. Mr. Goodman bought himself $10,000,000 worth of ego enhancement...for now.

I'm not a country fan but the mix is broad and pretty good. Only problem is I cannot get anything but static in my office or my house in Raleigh. I predict 94.7 will not be hurt at all.

WFX -"Q" will cause ascription issues with W-Q-DR. Why not call it Q99-9?
______________

If marketed hard there could be quite a bit of sampling. Cume will increase, perhaps on a short term basis, but it will go up. Will take till March/April for a good read.
______________

I don't know that the choice of "Genuine Country" is the best for a positioner. It sounds pretty awkward. "Cat Country" or "Carolina Country" or something else would have been a better choice, IMO. Maybe eventually they'll come up with something creative based on the suggested "WCMC" calls. Even with a weaker signal, it'll be nice to see QDR get a little competition.

Yeah, you (CC Alumni) also predicted that there would be stunting until next week when the real format is revealed. I don't think Capitol is changing this format. I like the sound and have no problem picking the station up. I can only imagine they reach will increase as time goes on.

This format will interest a lot of people, especially those not wanting to hear NASCAR updates and the races on Sunday.
