990 AM back on the air again?

Tune your radios to 990 AM - for real - is WALE on the air again? It's been on for several hours already today with Spanish music. I thought that frequency was going to be deleted.

As of 6:10 this evening, it was still on with Spanish music. The fact that I'm pulling it in fairly well must mean they have not yet reduced to night power. In all fairness, the "sound" of the station seems better than in its most recent incarnation with Steve Conti's swing/jazz/big band music, so something must have gotten repaired along the way.

In a strange related development, co-owned 1320 WARL is OFF the air as of this posting.

If 990 really is back on for real this time, then it becomes a matter of time before THIS venture fails as well. Guesses, anyone??? (Howie Carr Death-Pool style) ;D

That was only gonna happen if they didn't return to the air by December. There was a thing in Radio and Records a few weeks ago that WALE was gonna return to the air playing Spanish Hits similar to what WKKB (LATINA 100.3) plays and it's gonna be programmed by WKKB's former PD.

Let's just hope whoever is doing the repairs, etc. has enough $ to get the place back in compliance with pattern and power, fix the bad tower, and replace the sampling lines. Not to mention getting the AMPFET 50 back to 50 kW dys, and replacing whatever is wrong with THAT box....

Dave:

Whoa!......Time to curb the enthusiasm a little... ;)

If I had to take a guess, the repairs that are getting done are the relatively easy fixes, and ones that have a direct impact regarding how clean audio (in this case, music) sounds on-air.

Signal strength seems to be something substantially below full power...but cleaner.

Let's all hear it for signal hygene! ;D
