Sold my last memorabilia from this rocker. A cool metal license plate. Great station back in the day......Why is "Gater" still misspelled?

Can't verify if this is true, but once heard that they settled on "the gater" to avoid any legal issues from UF regarding the Florida Gators. I still preferred the old 99IZD and even the in between KGR "Gourmet Rock" more than branding it "gater."

When 97.3 vacated the calls WGTR for WFLC "The Coast" in 1990, I was surprised that WKGR did not grab 'em....WGTR The GaTeR. Oh well.

Wizard 99 was its CHR incarnation. After WOVV (also CHR) went to an AOR - early ClassicRock* hybrid called "96 Magic" in early 1980, Wizard switched to a more typical Males 18-24 core Rock format under the 99IZD handle a couple months later.

*Classic Rock had just gotten started at KFOG San Francisco
