Recently visited ATL for a few days, mostly listened to 99x and the Buzz during my stay. Neither was bad but they didn't particularly impress me either. Musically 99x was pretty listenable, though hearing the Black Crowes on an Alt station made me do a double-take at the radio. The morning show was kinda painful though... the guy was ok but the female sidekick had me yelling STFU! Liked their night guy, didn't get to listen to middays or afternoons. Their imaging had me scratching my head. I recognized one of the voices as BC, he does a lot of ALT and CHR stations. But who's the other male v-o that sounds like Sam Waterson from "Law and Order" and those financial advice commercials? He's like 25 years out of the demo! Ugh! Maybe I just had my hopes up too high for my first time checking out the "legendary" 99x.On the flipside, the Buzz imaging v-o sounded like some complete stoner. I've heard him as a secondary voice in other markets but having him on every piece is overkill and borderline annoying. I liked the morning guy, entertaining in a more-music-in-the-morning kinda way, like a good afternoon jock. Musically they seemed a little heavier than they need to be, but I guess if they're targeting the 18-24 half of the demo that's not too bad.Is that pretty much how the stations are on the whole or did my brief visit not give me a big enough picture? Based on what I heard I'd probably listen more to 99x than the Buzz... they sounded more major-market and I like hearing some polish on a station, especially in a market this big.Thoughts from the locals?
