99X final song suggestions/predictions?

Somewhere around 5:25am on January 25 (if the current timetable is adhered to), 99X will spin its final song.

What will it be? Suggestions? Predictions?

I would suggest "Closing Time" by Semisonic, but odds are it'll be something by Nirvana.

On January 25th at 5:00 in the morning at a local Waffle House Jimmy Baron, Steve Barnes, Steve Craig and Sean Demery gather to collectively celebrate the death of a friend where all of them reached the zeniths of their careers. Steve Craig has the waitress put on 99x for one last time. Leslie Fram struggles to park her Volkswagen Passat.

At the same time Larry and Eric sit in another corner trying to strike a truce while eyeing the former enemy. Across the aisle from them Steve and Vicki also celebrate their newfound riches, freedom and shoot arrows with their eyes at the former morning shows that a million times made fun of them. Christopher Rude gets and walks toward the bathroom as the waitress fumbles to find 99x on the Waffle House stereo she finally finds it as Journey's Don't Stop Believing plays. Leslie runs through the door as the song abruptly stops and the shrill sound of Bert Weiss comes through the stereo announcing "Good Morning Atlanta, you are now listening to All the hits Q99.7."

Other suggestions include:

All Apologies - Nirvana

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Black - Pearl Jam

With or Without You - U2

Fell on Black Days - Soundgarden

Loser - Beck

Chumba Wumba- Tubthumping

Ya know, when it looked like the station was done on Friday night, I heard "Yellow Ledbetter" by Pearl Jam and wondered if that was going to be it.

I half-expect it to be Green Day's "Good Riddance". Hopefully, they won't resort to "Video Killed the Radio Star" as a go-out-as-it-came-in gesture.

But somehow, I expect it to be something out of current rotation with a note that the Bert Show is coming up next.

RTibbs, my friend, that's Theater of the Mind at its finest. Awesome post!

Thank you I had rare moment of lucidity. I really think it would be funny for them to do that.

Also on a side note since he left the station would it be wrong for them to replay the excellent History of 99x that Steve Craig put together prior to the New Morning X started? They could play it in his old slot during the final week or so.

I think they should immediately stop playing currents and go straight with the music that made 99x great over the years.

One other final suggestions Champagne Supernova - Oasis

I am watching The Family Guy right now and they just played the perfect song from not only a favorite 99x artist but also Georgia's own REM. The perfect wsy too end it would be "It's The End Of The World"

I just logged in to say that would be my pick for their last song, but looks like you beat me to it.

Very creative...but I don't think you're going to see Barnes and Jimmy Baron celebrating together anytime soon.

I do see Barnes quite often at a certain deli here in town.

In a perfect world, they should totally shoot this. Would make a great TV spot. I'm already storyboarding it in my mind. It's got a final-Sopranos-meets-Animal-House-pre-Food-Fight-scene kinda feel to it. In my mind's eye anyway. And I would go one up and cast Gary McKee or Christopher Rude as the short order cook.

I suggest Big Empty by Stone Temple Pilots. :( I admit I quit listening to 99X along with the rest of Atlanta Radio when I switch to Sirius.
But,I enjoyed 99X during the 1990s and early 2000s. I sad to see it go.

How about Creed - My Sacrifice.

From what I've heard, Leslie did A LOT and put a lot of energy into the station....

I think they need to do the live version of It's the end of the world as we know it" from the REM concert at Chastain...
Michael Stipe handed me the microphone and I sang the chorus

That's the song with my vote.

I third the motion for "The End of the World as We Know It"

My first thought was "It's The End of the World As We Know It" then I remembered that was the last song that the MAX played before switching to Real Radio so my second choice would be "Closing Time".
