99X GIG!

Any word on how the process is going? Sent in my package two weeks ago when I read of the opening on allaccess. That's a pretty big opening to post like that! How many people do you think will send in their stuff? Whos' got the skinny? Also, (excluding past hosts there on 99X) is there anyone people can think of to fill that morning show slot? Who would be a good show or combo of people to make a show for them?

StickyIcky ;D

Deadman kind of has a point. I know excitement is common when waiting on a "big gig" but posting in a cunning attempt to get inside info isnt really cool.

What's wrong with asking? I've been doing radio for 4 years now and feel qualified for the job, but I've only been working at the same place for the 4 years. I haven't had much communication with the outside job world.

Let me first state that I'm not in the radio business just one of the many former 99X listeners. If you knew the whole situation going on at 99X I don't know if you would want in on what was once a great alternative/new rock station. Just wanting to give you a heads up.....not trying to be discouraging or anything. If you have any contacts in the ATL.....call them up and ask.

Given that I have no radio experience and did some light DJ'ing in middle school, I think I'd be perfect for this position.

Now, how do I assemble a "package".....

different people in and out of the atlanta radio discussion - FK is good friend of mine who used to work at 99x.

If you've been doing radio for only 4 years - I'll tell you with 100% certainty - you WILL NOT get the gig.

Sorry - just the truth.

Maybe, but it's worth a shot. Nothing is for certain except death and taxes. Isn't that the old saying?

Who's David Paul.....?

David Paul is the Operations Manager at Cumulus-Atlanta....you might want to familiarize yourself with him. ;)

I've been "doing radio" for about 4 years as well...and I KNOW that I'm nowhere NEAR qualified to have a gig like that.

Unless you've been "doing radio" in a medium to major market, full time, for 4 years straight, I wouldn't count on getting a response.

I WOULD say that part time weekends, however, wouldn't be completely out of the question.

Radio, as most of know, is a tough business. But if you have the right timing, a fair amount of luck, and a few "phone numbers" programmed in to your cell phone, you might just be able to pull it off! ;D

The GOOD news, though, is that once you're in, you're in....as long as you prove yourself, go the extra mile, and don't say F*** on the air. ;D

[EDIT] your are not ready for a major market gig, which sadly means you are perfect for 99x. Offer to do mornings and two other jobs for 40K and the Dick Brothers will probably hire you.

[EDIT-personal attack]

Ah, jeez, I'm wiping my eyes. This is too funny; I'm crying, really. 4 years "experience" and ready for mornings in Market 10? Stop, I'll have a heart attack. Honest.

What's so funny? 4 years is a decent amount of time. People accomplish a lot in 4 years. Who's to say that I'm not polished enough to do market 10. It's not like that market stands the radio world on it's ear. Not to mention, if you laughed at my last post, then I can work anywhere that you get a diary. I'm a funny guy. ;D

I'm curious as to what your four years has consisted of? Has it been completely ON AIR work? Did you do any kind of internship? Which market(s)?

It's all been on-air. As for the market, I would rather keep that under my hat right now. Not trying to be sneaky Twitch. Just protective. But I can say, in a market that is not out of the realm of possiblity to be a decent stepping stone to a top 10.

The guy's actually right. Plenty of jocks have gotten major market morning gigs with only four years under their belts. Fred Toucher, Jimmy Baron, Axel, Tracy St. George, Jamie Massey, Jenn Hobby, all had less than four years doing radio before moving to 99X/Q100. In fact, it's a good bet that whomever the Dickeys hire will probably have only small market experience because anyone with a major market resume won't work for what they'll be offered (probably $75K). I mean, you gotta figure that if all they could come up with for a 13 year veteran (Jimmy) was $155K (according to his blog) then it would stand to reason that someone new to the market will be offered way less.

With the exception of Toucher, none of those talents were Marquee names when they started on a morning show. I don't think TSG has ever done mornings at Q, Jamie Massey is a traffic girl for god sakes, and Axel has done way more than 4 years before moving to mornings. Remember he started out nights, then afternoons, now mornings (and only as a fill-in). Jenn Hobby is 4th mic and had other morning show experience in Atlanta (at the Beat). JB started out as mainly an off the mic producer on the Morning X, and had some considerable experience producing before getting the X gig.
