99x needs a spark - and who?

Without bashing, if possible, what is missing from the morning show? I just don't think they have a spark that ignites passionate conversation. So, I figure they need a spark. The Bert show has a spark. They have a guy everybody thinks is a jerk. He can say things and the other guys still look good. 99x needs a spark. Constructive criticism please.

Morning show spark suggestions:
1. Larry Wachs
2. Pete Davis
3. David Paul

Wachs would just take over. He isnt the wacky sidekick. The other 2 suggestions...too old. Weird saying that when you consider who's on the 99X show right now.
Is Sebastian, Seabass, whatever, still on the show (havent listened at all for some time)? He could do it with some coaching.
The tough part to being the brash one on that show is that you have your PD sitting right next to you. Leslie plays it safe so a lot of trust would be required for someone to come in and make waves. Personally, I think its an un-winnable situation. Best of luck to them though

It'll get wacky on the 99X morning show soon enough. Just wait until Leslie gets her AARP card in a couple of years! Talk about your edgy radio!

Ah, let the trite "Fram is old" comments begin. 1st shot already fired. Boring. I tried to post that f10 doesnt post anymore after Deadman accused of him (I'm assuming it's a male) of being Chris Williams. F10, where did you go? You always had some interesting takes on 99X/Fram et al. Or, was Deadman right and you cant post anymore?
Back to the thread, I dont think it's a case of Leslie being too old. I just think she comes from a kinder, gentler era of radio and that approach isnt going to work when it's on a station trying to re-invent, or, more importantly, trying to re-establish itself as a morning player in Atlanta.

My point isn't just that she's older.

I thought "Alternative" (whatever that word means these days) meant "edgy." I thought they were aiming for younger demos. Somebody old enough to be someone's grandma isn't what I call "edgy" or demo-friendly on an "alternative" station.

Steve McCoy is right around Leslie's age and he's a good fit at Star 94. Hey, that's it! Steve and Leslie in the mornings!!

Having been a bystander for a long period of time I must comment when it comes to Leslie. The reason for her longevity is her sheer talent. She can be funny and she can be an in your face pit bull. Leslie is the person you would like to hang with at a party. Leslie is a regular person and that is why the audience gyrates in her direction. The problem with the show is the conversation. That is a very general statement and says very little, but that is the problem. The show is lacking. There is no fire. I agree with the above statement that a deserving, out going, in your face idiot is needed for the show. That would allow Leslie the outlet to speak for the rest of us when she slams this person to the floor. A jerk is needed. A controlled moron who spews sexism at her occasionally. Who could fit that role, I don't know. The clown would have to believe his own verbal vomit and that would bring excitement to the show when Leslie ferociously attacked. Leslie is great at what she does but she does not have the outlet with the current structure of the show. Fix this problem and excitement will ensue. The above names would work as long as they could play their role. I wish Leslie the best.

Why not just can everyone and put him on? The current three can neither lead nor follow. Thus, they should get the hell out of the way. It'd likely be less expensive for Cumulus, too.

Yes F10 is Chris Williams... I had some insider help identifing that scum. His ego is so big I hope it's busts.

99x needs a spark - what it needs is better diverse music... Thanks to Chris Williams - 99x changed it sound to be more male driven butt rock. 99x needs to go back to the mix back in the beginning. What made 99x great that it play Squirrel Nut Zippers to NIN to Tony Bennett to REM. Opening up the playlist and being truely Everything Alternative will bring the spark 99x needs.

If by "spark" you mean "electric chair," then I think you're on to something. Letting 99X die and having something new created in its place would provide the biggest benefit to Atlanta radio listeners.

How long has Chris Williams been gone from 99X? Five years? And you're saying it's his fault the music on 99X isn't right. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Stop blaming Chris. I could care for him either way but alternative music as a whole has gone down significantly over the last several years across the country. By the way hasn't he been gone only like two and a half years at most?

All the Leslie apologists should stop also. She is in her her mid-50's and no where near the key demo they are going for. Listen to that show she seems so forced and contrived in her comments and seems to be out of the flow of the show.

I say build yet another morning show with Tim Andrews getting some time. Sean is a disaffected in his attitude, Jenners is in over his head and not even as talented as Wally, Mark is trying to be the tame version of Southside Steve with his stories of idiocy.

Any one of these three would work. They are all morons with idiotic opinions. They all deserved to be slapped repeatedly. They all have followings. And, they are all unemployed I believe. They will work table scraps. Leslie is one of the most unique talents in Atlanta when given the material to work with.

This statement can't even be taken seriously. If you believe the show will get better, fine. But saying you think Sean is "great" in the morning is so absolutely insane it challenges your credibility (I'm guessing you're a friend of his or something). Sean was/is one of the great innovators of modern rock radio but, let's be honest, he brings absolutely NOTHING to the table on this show. He can't take the lead on a bit or interview and he has no opinions. So what's he great at exactly? Leslie is Leslie, that is...vanilla. Not bad not good. And Jenners is still a poor man's Jimmy sans anything controversial, inflammatory, or thought provoking. In fact, that's the problem with the entire show in a nutshell. It's chock full of content, but with absolutely nothing that resonates. Andrews is a great hire but there's no way his talent will be maximized on that already-overcrowded show.

The problem with the Still "New Morning X," is that there is no finisher. I wont comment on Leslie because she is what she is and Vanilla is compliment. The problem here from a show perspective is there is no one who can finish the punchline. There is no one who can get the definitve last word. There is no one to push the hanger on over the edge so Leslie being Vanilla can be the safety net. All three of these folks are talented enough to be there, but each is a set up. That is why the show seems so akward and has sadly missed the intended throwback to the old Morning X show with Barnes Leslie and Jimmy.

No great radio show, or any other kind of show that attemps to make someone laugh can do it without a closer / finisher.

You're kidding right? He might not be what you are looking for in the morning, but I find him entertaining. I guess you never thought he was good in afternoons either.

(Usually watch from the sidelines but had to jump in!)

It is amazing to me that deadman, et. all; blame williams for the decline of X - don't remember that chris was the program director and that his boss was.....(taaaaadaaaaa) Leslie Fram.

the scapegoating continues.....
