What year did 99X started sucking?

Start? Probably when Leslie was promoted to PD.

In what year?

I don't remeber exactly but I want to say 1997.
According to a recent AJC article, 99X revenues peaked in 2000-2001 at $24 Million. It was #2 during this time 18-34. Leslie was program director at the time.

Chris Williams was PD from 2001-2004.

Ah, that's right 99x employees, how could I be so wrong. Leslie Fram is the greatest PD ever. She’s so influential that when she was promoted to market PD she was able to guide both 99x and q100 to greatness. How was that last book?

At least have the integrity to admit you were wrong. You said that 99X started going downhill when Leslie took the reigns as PD in 1997. I responded with facts, showing that 99X peaked in popularity during Leslie's tenure. That doesn't mean that Leslie is blameless for 99X's decline since 2001.

Integrity? Wrong board. Crass and stupid is so much easier and fun.

The question was, “What year did 99X started sucking?” In my opinion that was 1997 when the part timers were weak and board work was sloppy. I’m sorry I blamed you, your idol or boss (whatever the connection between you guys and Leslie is). If Chris Williams was PD during its major down turn then good thing they fired him. They have continued to slide since 2004 though.

From a listener standpoint I believe the 99x morning show started sucking in 2002. The playlist has been milqtoast for some time, not sure when that started sucking but the Morning X had an obvious suckiness when they started shuffling people around.

I would respectfully suggest that if sloppy board work is your criterion for judging a radio station, then perhaps you and I have a different set of standards. For a non-ethnic radio station to rise to #2 in this market is a pretty big accomplishment, and probably isn't very highly correlated to board work.

I don't work for 99X. Just curious. :p
I didin't think you did. I was talking about f10 & JimV

For what it's worth, I don't work for 99X or Cumulus. I'm also pretty sure that I won't be on Leslie's Christmas card list this year.

And how many years ago was that? You sound like these other old crusties on the board who want radio to be like it was in the 70's. 99X had a great run. But it's over. I'll agree that the 'sloppy board work' is about as petty as you can get when criticizing a station for sucking.

Excellent topic. I started listening (online from Myrtle Beach, SC.) in 1998 and they were still fulfilling their objective of playing new bands and classic alternative. I moved here in 2000 and the slide had begun. I think the Jump the Shark moment was playing Limp Bizkit as a "serious" band. That followed with all the rap/rock and angry rock circa 1999-2001. The last stand was when Nickleback's "How You Remind Me" was being played on six different stations including 99X.
