99X Returning in November??

I don't know if many of you saw one of my recent posts, but I still get emails from 99X promoting concerts and such. At the bottom of every email there is always something hinting about 99X's return. In today's email it showed a picture of Romney and Obama, they have captions of one saying, "I will bring back 99X" and the other says "Oh f@&# I quit." then at the bottom the text says "In November, only one clear decision will be made."

I haven't heard a "when" but they keep saying they'll be back. So, we'll see.

Next week proves to be an interesting one in Atlanta radio.

This could be a head fake by Cumulus to keep CC from flipping 105.7 to alt or AAA, to buy them some time to see how the Atlanta CHR market works itself out.

Highly doubt CC will go down any rock avenue any time soon after what they just did at 96.1. Alternative would be more likely than AAA, but I don't see either. I expect a gold-based format.

Well if Cumulus were to do it, the obvious choice would be 100.5 WNNX. Not as 99x though, maybe with a new moniker. Dave's 2.4 is better than Rock 100's 1.5 and if they can attract the audience and then some, I could see it being a logical decision. Will be interesting to see how things pan out.

I dont live in Atanta but I go through there sometimes when I go on vaction to NC. 92.9 have a better singal than 100.5. WNNX-FM covers inside Atanta Unless AAA goes to 100.5 then WNNX need to upgrade there singal or go to thier sister's HD channels with a full power station. WNNX-FM is 12,500 watts station while WGZC-FM 92.9 is 65,000 watts station

Keep in mind that Rock100.5 is doing great in its target demo of men.  You might could make a case that AAA brings more bucks than a male-oriented station (or not), but keep in mind that 1) having a demo (and a certain group of ad buyers) practically all to yourself at least on the music side is a good thing and 2) AAA is one of those formats that has been doing poorly in the world of PPM.  If 100.5 goes alt or (especially) AAA they could very well lose a lot of what they have today in terms of demo and advertisers, because the two groups of listeners and buyers are not additive.

Cumulus will not put alt or AAA on 100.5 unless Rock100.5 gets an upgrade to 99.7 or 101.5, neither of which seem likely any time soon.

If they were going to go online-only it probably would have been a good idea to do it before The Boning and give it some fanfare. Not that anyone listening to music online needs another cookie-cutter mainstream Alt station.

Ideally they'd just come up with a new monicker for 100.5 and play a mix of the Dave and 99X formats, highlighting newer and more indie stuff. Give it a more female oriented target demo and leave the groin and fart humor to Bone.

And speaking of groins and farts, do you think TRG would work on Bone in the event of Rock 100.5's demise?

It is interesting that while the website is still active (http://www.99x.com/) they have removed all reference to their frequency in their logo. They are also promoting Mistletoe Toe Jam as well as some October events.

Internet only.

wnnx.com forwards to 99x.com. I am not sure if it has always been configured this way or if this is a recent change, but this would seem to indicate that 99x might come back on wnnx (100.5). It doesn't make sense to forward the domain of a FM call sign to an Internet only station.

Rock100.5's URL has always been http://www.atlantasrockstation.com/ . Note no frequency listed...

I thought q100's call letters became WNNX when they flipped to 99.7.....
