99X's Freedom of Choice 1000

I enjoyed the parts I heard, especially Doug this afternoon.
I suggested a successful campaign to get "Spaceship" by Angie Aparo on the list. It ranked #979 on the votes of the Angie Addicts from the messageboard.

Why doesn't 99X play all these songs in normal rotation? In addition I highly doubt the validity of taking requests for this list. Clearly 1/3 of these songs I haven’t heard of and I was around when alternative broke. One other curious thing, there is a good representation from 1997-2003, the period 99X is trying to avoid.
If I had any brains at all, I would have emailed everyone I know to get a campaign to request Chumba Wumba on all ballots. Imagine if that song was #1?

Only one song by Matthew Sweet? One by Duran Duran?
Only 7 by Depeche Mode? ONE by Sarah McLachlan, but 3 from Liz
Phair? None by the Pretenders - yet "Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe"
by Whale?

The only commonality among the songs is that 99X did play them at one time though a few were not played much at all. I didn't recognize maybe 10 or 15 of the songs by title but migh if I heard them. And yes, it did include a lot of nu metal/hard metal songs from the 1999-2002 era by the likes of Limp Bizkit, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Godsmack and Tool that are no longer on the playlist. Even Kid Rock got three songs in there.
I did laugh when Big Bad Voodoo Daddy snuck in there. OutKast got "Hey Ya" in there, too. But somehow the Benedictine Monks and Tony Bennett didn't make it. Both versions of "Blue Monday" made it--New Order and Orgy. U2 had the most songs on the list of any act--31. REM had 22. And Nirvana just edged out Pearl Jam in no. of songs, 21 to 20.

I enjoyed hearing the Top 1000 on 99X. I confirmed that every song on the top 1000 got at least one vote. It was fun trying to guess who would be in the top 5 outside of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and number 1000 (congrats to the Darkness in pulling that off). Evidently, several actual ties took place and they seemed to have just put them in an order to mix up the songs a bit so one artist wouldn't fall back to back. I wonder how many tied with one vote and if any was intentionally left of the list because no way they would ever get played again on 99X.
What surprised me was how high "Hey Ya" by Outkast ranked as well as "Discotheque" by U2. I remember when Outkast ended up being overplayed on 99X and they were dropped when that song reached the saturation point.
Good job to 99X in making this past 4th of July a memorable one.

I agree....one of the best things they've ever done....I listened a good bit (via internet in MS), especially from about no. 150 on to the end....great work!! Several songs I haven't heard in a while made it....

I know the Darkness was on that Easter countdown. I heard 99X announce starting on Monday, they're recounting down the top 1000 from 10AM to midnight until they're done. No overnight hours this time around. Is this really necessary? Even though it was great the first time around, isn't it really like asking your listeners who get bored with this to tune over to the Buzz or some other station.
One other question. To those who have looked over the entire Top 1000, are there any songs you figured could have been on there, but didn't make it? One song I voted for on behalf of my 7-year old son was "Holiday" by Green Day and it was not on the countdown.
