9th and final season of The Middle

The news coming out today, that this season will be the final season for the Middle, and the series star Patrica Heaton tweeted that it is "the most epic final season ever". Patrica Heaton also played Deborah Barone on Everybody Lovers Raymond, and the Middle will also end its series run at 9 seasons, just like Everybody Loves Raymond did. But even through it will be months away, do you think that they will go all out like other tv series have done, with at least 1 hour or maybe even more of a series finale, or will it go out the same way that Everybody Loves Raymond did, where you might have had the feeling that would be another season and more episodes to come, when really it wasn't. It was a half an hour series finale, that didn't even seem like a series finale.

The Middle has been very uneven over the years. Perhaps that is normal for sitcoms but this one didn't seem to have the infighting and actor turnover that other sitcoms have suffered. They have had some very funny episodes and some that were anything but funny.

Whatever happens, I will be anxious to see their main actors doing something else in the future. They do have a talented group of regulars.

At this point the kids are WAY too old to play kids. (I think Eden Sher was 20 playing a 13-year old Sue at the beginning). They pretty much have to shut it down at this point.

This show has had some surprising performances during its run. I never would have guessed that
Brooke Shields could be that convincing playing a trailer trash mom.

I have checked on imdb.com Eden Sher was born on December 26th, 1991, and I know it can be hard to get a lot of teen actors when a lot of them will be in school, and even with movies it is the same thing, if I am remembering with the Breakfast Club cast, only 2 of the actors were as of high school age when filming the movie, and the rest of them were own their 20's when they filmed the movie.

And maybe because Frankie and Mike are at seen fighting then when you remember Everybody Loves Raymond where either Ray and Deborah would be bricking, or even worse Frank and Marie. I had to think that the show will be coming to a close at some point, but didn't know if it will try to squeeze out 1 or even 2 more seasons, as you don't see a lot of live action shows go 11 or more seasons, there are some I know that have.

This has long been one of my favorite shows (thought the past several seasons haven't been as enjoyable), and Sue was a big reason. Brick's quirky behavior would be a close second. And no matter what happened to these poor unfortunate people, I was able to just enjoy it rather than feel sorry for them.

One problem I have had over the years is that one or both parents always seem to be home during the work day if the situation calls for it. I know Mike is the boss, but that doesn't seem realistic. I like Frankie here a lot better than I would have with Raymond. I've seen clips of that other show and I just couldn't stand it. But here, she's just so adorable.

Good lord man! Thinking back to the Golden Age of TV and I cannot remember one single comedy husband that "worked" very much. Even "Hennessey" in the 50's where Jackie Cooper was in the Navy - he was home most of the series. Some of those old comedies showed the dad coming home from work but more likely than not that was the only time there was any suggestion that the husband worked outside the house. The exception was "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (original) where many of the story lines involved Rob's workmates and was shot at their office.
